The relationship between sexual behaviour and anxiety in adolescents related to peer conformity

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zaměřuje na sexuální chování českých adolescentů ve vztahu s úzkostí a konformitou. Jejím cílem je zjistit, zda je u sexuálně aktivnějších adolescentů vyšší míra konformity a úzkosti. Cílem je také zjistit, zda se úzkost liší na základě sexuální aktivity v interakci s konformitou. Pro ověření hypotéz byla použita data z české verze mezinárodního projektu SAHA, který se pomocí dotazníkového šetření zaměřil na rizikového chování a rizikové a protektivní faktory. Byla zpracována data pro kohortu šestnáctiletých (N = 1903) využitím škály úzkosti, škály pokušení a sexuálního chování. Respondenti byli rozděleni do tří skupin na základě toho, s kolika lidmi měli pohlavní styk. Konkrétně 1) neaktivní (ještě pohlavní styk neměli), 2) aktivní (měli pohlavní styk s 1-3 lidmi) a 3) velmi aktivní (měli pohlavní styk se 4 a více lidmi). Ukázalo se, že mezi skupinami existuje rozdíl v míře konformity, přičemž nejvyšší míru konformity vykazovali jedinci ze skupiny velmi aktivní a nejnižší míru konformity vykazovali jedinci ze skupiny neaktivní. Stejně tak se skupiny lišily v míře úzkosti, kde naopak nejvyšší míru úzkosti vykazovali jedinci ve skupině neaktivní a nejnižší míru jedinci ve skupině velmi aktivní. Nebyl však nalezen statisticky významný rozdíl v míře úzkosti na základě konformity, a tudíž se úzkost nelišila ani na základě interakce konformity a sexuálního chování.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis focuses on the relationship between sexual activity, anxiety, and conformity in Czech adolescents. Its goal is to find out if there is a higher degree of conformity in adolescents that are more sexually active. Another goal is to find out whether the degree of anxiety differs based on the interaction of conformity and sexual activity. Data from the Czech version of the international project SAHA were used in this thesis. Project SAHA is a questionnaire survey focused on risk behaviour and protective and risk factors in adolescence. Data from the anxiety scale, “saying no” scale and sexual behaviour for 16-year-olds were used. The respondents were divided into three groups based on their sexual activity. Those with no experience with sexual intercourse were put into group 1) inactive, those who had sexual intercourse with 1-3 people were put into group 2) active, and those who had sexual intercourse with 4 or more people were put into group 3) very active. Results showed a statistically significant difference in conformity between the groups. The group very active showed the highest degree of conformity, meanwhile the group inactive showed the lowest degree of conformity. A statistically significant difference in anxiety was also found, specifically the group inactive showed the highest degree of anxiety and the group very active lowest. There was found no significant relationship between anxiety and conformity, so anxiety did not differ based on the interaction of conformity and sexual activity.
