Topological properties of hyperspaces

Abstract:

Tématem této bakalářské práce jsou hyperprostory, a to konkrétně prostory CL(X) a 2^X a jejich topologické vlastnosti. Naším středem zájmu budou zejména topologické a metrické vlastnosti těchto prostorů, přičemž v průběhu textu budeme budovat potřebnou teorii pro popis těchto vlastností. Postupně si na CL(X) zavedeme definici Vietorisovy topologie a ukážeme si, za jakých podmínek jsou hyperprostory CL(X) a 2^X metrizovatelné. Nadefinujeme si pojem konvergence v prostoru CL(X) a ukážeme, jak souvisí s klasickou definicí konvergence na X, přičemž se podíváme i na některé vlastnosti, jenž s konvergencí souvisí. Nakonec to budou vztahy, jako například separabilita či kompaktnost, mezi vlastnostmi prostorů X a CL(X), kterými se bude tento text zabývat. Základní definice zde budeme ilustrovat na příkladech, přičemž text je strukturován tak, aby byla vždy vybudována potřebná teorie předtím, než dojde k samotné formulaci a důkazu tvrzení či vět.

Abstract:

The theme of this bachelor thesis are hyperspaces, in particular we will be dealing with CL(X) and 2^X, and their topological properties. Our focus will be the topological and metric properties of these spaces, and in the course of the text we will build the necessary theory for describing these properties. Gradually, we will introduce a definition of Vietoris topology for CL(X) and also we will show what conditions need to be met for hyperspacess CL(X) and 2^X to be metrizable. In the hyperspace CL(X) we will define the concept of convergence and show how it relates to the classic definition of convergence in X. Furthermore we will discuss some of the characteristics associated with convergence. In the end, it will be relationships, such as separation or compactness, between the properties of space X and CL(X) we will be dealing with. We will illustrate the basic definitions on examples, with the text structured in a way that the necessary theory is always built before the actual theorems and proofs are made.
