Exostosis on human calcaneus

Abstract:

This thesis focuses on bringing a brief overview of the most common benign tumours - exostoses, their origin and clinical manifestations. Another goal of this thesis was to monitor the presence, respectively the absence of Haglund's exostosis on the heel bones of the historical population. Before that, the sex estimation was made on given bones in order to test the correlation between the presence of exostosis and the sex. The potential existence of Haglund's exostosis was determined by the angle between the posterior and plantar surface of the heel bone. Sex estimation was made of nine measurements on heel bones according to a study by T. R. Peckmann (2015).

Abstract:

Zámerom tejto práce je priniesť stručný prehľad o najbežnejšie sa vyskytujúcich benígnych nádoroch - exostózach, ich vzniku a klinických prejavoch. Ďalším cieľom práce bolo sledovanie prítomnosti, resp. neprítomnosti Haglundovej exostózy na pätových kostiach historickej populácie. Ešte predtým bolo na daných kostiach odhadnuté pohlavie pre posúdenie závislosti existencie pätovej exostózy na pohlaví. Potenciálna existencia Haglundovej exostózy bola určená pomocou uhla medzi zadným a plantárnym povrchom pätovej kosti. Pohlavie bolo odhadované podľa štúdie T. R. Peckmannovej (2015) z deviatich rozmerov nameraných na kalkaneách.
