Pozitivismus nepochybně patřil mezi nejvýznamnější směry devatenáctého století v celé Evropě, a svou formu dostal i v českých zemích; kromě pozitivismu tu však měl svou roli ještě idealismus. A oba tyto směry můžeme najít i ve spojitosti s Masarykem; tím je myšleno jeho sklon k vědeckosti a současně jeho důraz na náboženskou víru. Positivism undoubtedly was one of the most important philosophical theory of the 19. Century in Europe, and its form was given in the Czech lands too; except positivism there was still a idealism. And both these philosophical theories can be found in connection with Masaryk; it is meant his tendency to scientism and his emphasis on religious faith.
