Ethnic and Postethnic Identities Performed in Gish Jen's Novels
Abstract:
Diplomová práce rozebírá dva romány od americké spisovatelky Gish Jen, čínského původu, Typical American a Mona in the Promised Land. Tato práce analyzuje způsob jakým se první a druhá generace imigrantů z Číny vyrovnává s integrací do americké společnosti. Dále se práce zaměřuje na hledání vlastní identity v závislosti na změnách ve společnosti a na výsledek, který to přineslo.
Abstract:
This thesis analyses Gish Jen’s novels Typical American and Mona in the Promised Land. It studies the way the first and the second generation of Chinese immigrants in America coped with their integration into the new society. The thesis also centres on the individual’s search for his or her new identity with respect to the societal changes and outcomes it had.
