Stochastic orders

Abstract:

In this thesis we study orders of the random variables which we call stochastic orders. To examine them, it is necessary to know the concepts of probability and algebra which will be explained first. Thanks to the connection of these two areas, we will be able to define what are stochastic orders, some basic types of univariate stochastic orders and, last but not least, their properties. We graphically compare what the survival functions of ordered random variables with the same but also with different probability distributions look like. We will see examples and applications of how stochastic orders work not only in theoretical mathematics, but especially in practical use where they are a very important tool for comparing obtained values whether financial gains or losses that can behave randomly over time and are represented by random variables.

Abstract:

V tejto bakalárskej práci sa venujeme usporiadaniam náhodných veličín, ktoré nazývame stochastické usporiadania. K ich štúdiu je potrebné poznať pojmy z pravdepodobnosti a algebry, ktoré si najskôr vysvetlíme. Vďaka spojeniu týchto dvoch oblastí budeme schopní definovať, čo sú stochastické usporiadania, niektoré základné typy jednorozmerných stochastických usporiadaní a v neposlednom rade ich vlastnosti. Graficky porovnáme, ako vyzerajú funkcie prežitia usporiadaných náhodných veličín s rovnakými, ale aj rozdielnymi rozdeleniami pravdepodobnosti. Na príkladoch a aplikáciach uvidíme, ako stochastické usporiadania fungujú nielen v teoretickej matematike, ale hlavne v praktickom využití, kde sú veľmi dôležitým nástrojom na porovnávanie dosahovaných hodnôt či už finančných ziskov alebo strát, ktoré sa v priebehu času správajú náhodne a sú reprezentované náhodnými veličinami.
