A Guide to Library and Literary Prizes in the Czech Republic

Abstract:

Bakalářská diplomová práce „Průvodce po knihovnických a literárních cenách v České republice“ pojednává o tomto druhu soutěží od vzniku samostatného Československa. Cílem práce je zmapovat situaci a soustředit informace o těchto cenách na jednom místě, ceny charakterizovat a rozdělit do kategorií (základní dělení je na ceny a ankety). Práce si všímá specifik jednotlivých cen a vyzdvihuje některé oceněné. První část textu je věnována cenám knihovnickým, které ve větší míře vznikaly až po roce 1948, kdy byly knihovny důležitým prostředníkem ideologické výchovy obyvatel socialistického Československa. Další zlom nastal v roce 1989, kdy byla v devadesátých letech ustanovena řada knihovnických soutěží, které pokračují dodnes. Jsou to ceny pro knihovny, dětská oddělení knihoven, významné osobnosti – knihovníky, webové stránky knihoven i ocenění v oblasti elektronických informačních zdrojů. V druhé části je poskytnut chronologický přehled literárních cen udělovaných od 20. let 20. století. Důraz je kladen na současnou situaci. Dnes je v rámci České republiky udělováno na čtyři desítky cen za nejrůznější literární žánry, ve kterých je těžké se zorientovat. Na závěr práce je zařazena anketa studentů knihovnictví na téma „Moje nejoblíbenější kniha“.

Abstract:

The bachelor thesis “A Guide to Library and Literary Prizes in the Czech Republic” treats this type of competitions since the birth of sovereign Czechoslovakia. Its aim is to monitor the situation and assemble available information in oneplace, characterise the prizes and divide them into several categories (primary division being prizes and opinion polls). The thesis points out specific features of particular prizes and highlights some of the awardees. The first part is devoted to library prizes, which were to a greater extend founded after 1948 when the libraries served as an important means of ideological education of the socialist Czechoslovakia. Year 1989 represented a next milestone and the last decade of the twentieth century witnessed emergence of many librarian competitions, many of them keeping their continuity until now. These are prizes for libraries, children literature departments, exceptional librarians, web pages and electronic information sources. The second part provides a chronological outline of literary prizes which have been awarded since 1920s, with a particular focus on current situation. At present, there are more than forty different prizes for different genres, so it is very difficult to orient oneself in such a great spectrum. Finally, the thesis concludes with an opinion poll “My Favourite Book”.
