Comparison of the level of subjectively perceived well-being of students of gymnasiums and secondary pedagogical schools

Abstract:

Cílem diplomové práce je zjistit, zdali a případně jaký existuje rozdíl mezi žáky středních pedagogických škol a žáky gymnázií v úrovni subjektivně vnímaného wellbeingu ve školním prostředí, pomocí srovnání výsledků v metodě testující právě wellbeing ve školním prostředí (DSWQ). V teoretické části je prostor věnován ukotvení pojmu wellbeingu, jeho vlivu na vzdělávání, spolu s přehledem uplatňování wellbeingu v rámci školství jak v zahraničí, tak v českém prostředí, rovněž je také prezentován přehled přínosných výzkumných studií, jež byly doposud realizovány. Výzkumný záměr vychází z hypotézy, která předpokládá vyšší úroveň subjektivně vnímaného wellbeingu ve školním prostředí žáků středních pedagogických škol. Prezentovaná studie vychází z údajů od 200 respondentů, přičemž 97 tvořilo skupinu žáků středních pedagogických škol a 103 skupinu žáků gymnázií. Na základě zjištění z námi realizovaného výzkumu potvrzujeme hypotézu, jež předpokládá vyšší úroveň subjektivně vnímaného wellbeingu žáků středních pedagogických škol a zároveň vyšší úroveň subjektivně vnímaného wellbeingu u chlapců v porovnání s dívkami. Reflektujeme rovněž významnou souvislost úrovně wellbeingu a školního prospěchu žáků, kdy čím vyšší úrovní wellbeingu žák disponuje, tím lepší je jeho školní prospěch. Závěrem pojmenováváme faktory, které mohou wellbeing ve školním prostředí ovlivňovat, jsou jimi: podpora self-efficacy žáků, implementace jejich nápadů, adekvátní akustické podmínky pro vzdělávání, podpora jejich autonomie a sebeřízení a zejména pak vytváření bezpečného prostředí, kde se žáci cítí přijímáni takoví, jací jsou.

Abstract:

The aim of the diploma thesis is to find out whether and possibly what difference there is between pupils of secondary pedagogical schools and pupils of gymnasiums in the level of subjectively perceived well-being in the school environment, by means of a comparison of results in the method that tests well-being in the school environment (DSWQ). In the theoretical part, space is devoted to anchoring the concept of well-being, its influence on education, together with an overview of the application of well-being in education both abroad and in the Czech environment, as well as an overview of beneficial research studies that have been carried out so far. The research objective is based on a hypothesis that assumes a higher level of subjectively perceived well-being in the school environment of secondary pedagogic school pupils. The presented study is based on data from 200 respondents, with 97 forming a group of secondary pedagogical school pupils and 103 a group of secondary grammar school pupils. Based on the findings of our research, we confirm the hypothesis, which assumes a higher level of subjectively perceived well-being of secondary pedagogical school pupils and, at the same time, a higher level of subjectively perceived well-being in boys compared to girls. We also reflect on the significant connection between the level of well-being and school performance of pupils, where the higher the level of well-being a pupil has, the better his school performance. Finally, we present the factors that can influence well-being in the school environment, such as the support of self-efficacy of pupils, the implementation of their ideas, adequate acoustic conditions for education, the support of their autonomy and self-management and above all the creation of a safe environment where pupils feel accepted as they are.
