Transforming Media Representations of Childhood Innocence in the Magazine Mateřídouška in year 2011 compared to 1980

Abstract:

The master‘s thesis deals with the transformation of discourse childhood innocence in the children's magazine Mateřídouška in year 2011 compared to 1980. The theoretical framework of the study is interdisciplinary grasp childhood innocence from its inception to the present, the dominant expert discourse concerns the existence of childhood, based on the concept of childhood innocence and sociopolitical context of the children´s lives in 1980 and 2011. Through the use of discourse analysis of six articles from two studied years of magazine Mateřídouška - key sources of media representations of childhood innocence - the thesis investigates the conversion of the meaning and construction of childhood innocence and the status of children in different discourses of childhood. The research findings show that editors of Mateřídouška used in the year 2011 more variable representations of childhood innocence than in year 1980. As a key shift in the name of preserving the importance of childhood innocence, appears an inconsistency of Mateřídouška´s creators in year 2011, who, through media representations of childhood innocence argues for expanding the autonomy of children and also the need to control them.The study also confirms the important role of expert knowledge, respectively interconnection of media and interdisciplinary discourse of childhood.

Abstract:

Diplomová práca sa zaoberá premenou diskurzu detskej nevinnosti v detskom časopise Mateřídouška v ročníku 2011 oproti ročníku 1980. Teoretický rámec štúdie tvorí interdisciplinárne uchopenie detskej nevinnosti od jej vzniku až po súčasnosť, dominantné expertné diskurzy obáv o existenciu detstva, ktoré sa opierajú o koncept detskej nevinnosti a sociopolitický kontext života detí v roku 1980 a v roku 2011. Pomocou diskurzívnej analýzy šiestich článkov z dvoch skúmaných ročníkov časopisu Matřídouška (1980, 2011) – kľúčových zdrojov mediálnych reprezentácií detskej nevinnosti - práca skúma premenu významu a konštrukcie detskej nevinnosti a postavenie detí v rôznych diskurzoch detstva. Zo zistení výskumu vyplýva, že redakcia Mateřídoušky v ročníku 2011 pristupuje ku konceptu detskej nevinnosti premenlivejšie než v ročníku 1980. Ako kľúčová premena, v mene zachovania významu detskej nevinnosti, sa ukazuje nerozhodnosť, resp. rozporuplnosť tvorcov Mateřídoušky v ročníku 2011, ktorí kontradickým umiestňovaním reprezentácií detskej nevinnosti polemizujú o rozširovaní detskej autonómie a súčasne o potrebe detí kontrolovať. Štúdia tiež potvrdzuje významné postavenie expertného vedenia, resp. prepojenie mediálneho a interdiciplinárneho diskurzu detstva.
