Film adaptations of literary work Selected adaptations of the novel Three musketeers by Alexandre Dumas

Abstract:

Práce se zabývá filmovými adaptacemi známého literárního díla Alexandra Dumase Tři mušketýři. Hlavním cílem práce je poskytnout ucelený pohled na vybraná filmová zpracování románu, jejich vzájemné porovnání a na to, jak se vyrovnala s knižní předlohou. V teoretické části se zabývá odbornými analýzami problematiky filmových adaptací literárních děl. Dále popisuje život a dílo autora a zjišťuje, kde čerpal inspiraci pro svůj román. Zabývá se nejen příběhem samotným, ale i skutečnými historickými okolnostmi, během kterých se odehrává a do nichž je příběh zasazen. Následně rozebírá pět filmových adaptací, mezi nimiž je například i němá verze amerického režiséra Freda Nibla z roku 1921. Analýza dochází k závěru, že se jedná o nadčasový a divácky atraktivní příběh, jehož úspěch není podmíněn kvalitou filmového ztvárnění, jelikož těží z popularity samotné literární předlohy.

Abstract:

This thesis analyzes the film adaptations of Three Musketeers by Alexandre Dumas. The aim of this project is to summarize the abstracts of selected film adaptations, offer a complete comparison to the original work. The theoretical section offers technical analyses of these film adaptations. Furthermore, it outlines the life of the author along with the description of his inspiration. Not only is the story itself taken into consideration, but also the actual historical events that affected the story. This section fully explores 5 film adaptations, including a mute version created by Fred Niblo in 1921. The analyses concludes, that the story line is not only super temporal, but also widely attractive. This success of the film adaptation is not necessarily based on the quality of the work, but more so, it takes advantage of the success of the original best seller.
