Palau, Micronesia and Marshall Islands: Microstates in the Globalized World

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se věnuje mikrostátům Oceánie, konkrétně Palau, Federativním státům Mikronésie a Marshallovým ostrovům. Zabývá se popisem jejich ekonomické a environmentální politiky, zhodnocením závislosti států na remitencích a zahraniční rozvojové pomoci, popisem jejich zapojení do mezinárodních struktur a hodnocením demografického vývoje a životní úrovně států. Práce je sestavena pomocí kompilace odborné anglicky psané literatury a analýzou sekundárních statistických dat.

Abstract:

This Bachelor thesis is focused on the microstates of Oceania, in particular Palau, the Federated States of Micronesia and the Marshall Islands. It describes the economic and environmental policies of these counries as well as their involvement in international structures. It evaluates their dependency on remittances and foreign developmental assistance. It further evaluates the demographic development and the standard of living in these microstates. The thesis is based on the literature available on the topic, written in English, and the analysis of secondary statistical data.
