Revision of the beraunite-group minerals and related phosphates

Abstract:

Provedená studie je věnována hydratovaným bazickým fosfátům beraunitové skupiny. Hlavní získané výsledky dokumentují 4 přiložené publikace. Na základě typového materiálu byl nově definován minerál beraunit Fe3+6(PO4)4O(OH)4·6H2O a diskreditován minerál "eleonorit". Jako nový minerální druh byl popsán feroberaunit Fe2+Fe3+5(PO4)4(OH)5·6H2O. U beraunitu, feroberaunitu a zinkoberaunitu ZnFe3+5(PO4)4(OH)5·6H2O byla upřesněna struktura na základě analýzy výsledků monokrystalové rentgenové difrakce. Stanovení poměru Fe2+/Fe3+ v beraunitu bylo provedeno pomocí Mössbauerovy spektroskopie, v případě feroberaunitu bylo ověřeno použití rentgenové fotoelektronové spektroskopie (XPS). Byla rovněž publikována nová data Ramanovy spektroskopie, infračervené spektroskopie (pro beraunit) a další charakteristiky. U beraunitu byla zjištěna desymetrizace struktury v důsledku deprotonace OH → O v koordinačním oktaedru M1 jako důsledek vyššího valenčního stavu železa Fe2+ → Fe3+ a následné změny systému H-vazby. Při studiu beraunitu-feroberaunitu bohatého na mangan byl řešen problém hypotetického "manganoberaunitu". Byly nastíněny genetické podmínky vzniku a vliv geologického prostředí na chemické složení.

Abstract:

The study carried out focuses on hydrated basic phosphates of the beraunite group. The main results obtained are documented by 4 attached publications. Based on the type material, beraunite Fe3+6(PO4)4O(OH)4·6H2O was redefined and the mineral "eleonorite" was discredited. Ferroberaunite Fe2+Fe3+5(PO4)4(OH)5·6H2O was specified as a new mineral species. For beraunite, ferroberaunite and zincoberaunite ZnFe3+5(PO4)4(OH)5·6H2O, the structure was refined based on the analysis of single crystal X-ray diffraction results. Determination of the Fe2+/Fe3+ ratio in beraunite was carried out using Mössbauer spectroscopy, and in ferroberaunite, the use of X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) was verified. New Raman spectroscopy data, infrared spectroscopy (for beraunite) and other characteristics were also published. In beraunite, a desymmetrisation of structure due to deprotonation of OH → O in the M1 coordination octahedron due to a higher valence state of iron Fe2+ → Fe3+, and a consequent change of the H-bonding system was described. In the study of manganese-rich beraunite–ferroberaunite, the problem of hypothetical "manganoberaunite" was addressed. The genetic conditions of formation and the influence of geological environment on the chemical composition were outlined.
