Volunteer Work Management and Volunteer Motivation in a Non-Profit Organisation

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce zkoumá motivace a řízení dobrovolníků v neziskové organizace. Pozornost je věnována tomu, jak se chování dobrovolníků proměňuje v čase. Práce se skládá ze čtyř částí: teoretické vymezení, data a výzkumné metody, diskuse výsledků a závěru. Celou práci zaštiťuje Model moci, chtít, umět. V teoretickém vymezení je provedena rešerše literatury, zasazení dobrovolnické organizace a dobrovolnické práce do českého kontextu a seznámení se zkoumanou neziskovou organizací Asociace pro mezinárodni otázky a projektem, na který se tato práce soustředí – Pražský studentský summit. Na závěr je definována výzkumná otázka: Jaké vnější a vnitřní faktory Modelu moci-chtít-umět nejvíce ovlivňují a ovlivňovaly motivaci a řízení dobrovolníku v průběhu let na Pražském studentském summitu? a k ní 4 hypotézy. Tyto hypotézy jsou zkoumány pomocí dotazníkového šetření a provedených polostrukturovaných rozhovorů. Pro samotné vyhodnocení hypotéz jsou použity vícerozměrné regresní modely a pro vysvětlení jsou použita data z rozhovorů analyzovaná pomocí tematické analýzy. Na závěr jsou shrnuty výsledky práce, sepsány doporučení pro organizaci a vyhodnoceny limity práce.

Abstract:

This thesis aims to investigate volunteer motivation and management in a non-profit organisation. The thesis focuses on the changes in the volunteers’ behaviour over time. The thesis consists of four parts: background, data and research methodology, results, and conclusion. The main features of this research are based on the publication Third-party Model: Enhancing Volunteering through Governments, Corporations and Educational Institutes. The background section presents a literature review, sets the concepts of a volunteer organisation and volunteer work in the context of Czechia, and introduces the non-profit organisation studied - Association for International Affairs - and the project Prague Student Summit, which is the thesis’ main object of focus. The section concludes with defining the research question: “Which internal or external factors from the Third-party Model have been the most influential in motivating and managing volunteers over the existence of the Prague Student Summit?” and suggests four hypotheses. These are investigated utilizing questionnaires and semi-structured interviews. Multi-dimensional regression models are used for hypothesis testing. The result analysis is supplemented by data acquired from the interviews via topic analysis methods. The thesis concludes with a summary of results, a list of recommendations for the non-profit organisation studied, and the study’s limitations.
