Structural changes in porous enfineering barrier materials as a result of long-term interaction with ground water

Abstract:

Hlubinné úložiště závisí na materiálech použitých pro výstavbu inženýrských bariér. Beton a bentonit tvoří značnou část této bariéry v typu úložiště KBS-3. V této práci jsou k nalezení výsledky MIP (Rtuťová porozimetrie) ve srovnání s metodou SEM (elektronový mikroskop). Zkoumáno bylo 12 betonových vzorků a 20 bentonitových vzorků. Betonové vzorky jsou unikátní díky IN SITU původu z uranového dolu Rožná a dále z krasových jeskynní z oblasti Moravského krasu. Bentonitové vzorky pochází z dolu Rokle (podnik Keramost a.s.) a z testování Mock-Up CZ. Výsledky MIP ukazují, výsledky působení různých prostředí na vzorky betonu a bentonite. SEM metoda sloužila k ověření výsledků získaných pomocí MIP. 3 Podle předpokladů, betony, které byly nasycené vodou po delší časový úsek, měly jiné výsledky porozit, než výsledky ze vzorků betonů odebraných na suchých místech. Pro porozitu bentonit byla rozhodující kompakce. Praktická část práce ukazuje výsledky MIP a SEM. Diskuze je zaměřena na potřebu vice vzorků in situ původu a dále na možné příčiny změn v porozitách materiálu.

Abstract:

An effective deep geological disposal depends on which types of material are used for the barrier system. Concrete and bentonite are playing a significant part in the barrier system in KBS-3 geological disposal type. This thesis presents the results of MIP (mercury porosimetry) in comparison with SEM (scanning electron microscope) carried out on 12 concrete samples and 20 bentonite samples. The concrete samples present a unique combination of IN SITU from uranium mine, Rožná, which is located in Czech Republic, and karst caves, located in Moravian Karst, Czech Republic. Bentonite originates from Keramost a.s. (mine Rokle near Kadan, Czech Republic) and from Mock-up CZ test. The results of MIP measuring show the influence of different types of environments on different types of concrete and bentonite. The SEM results serve only as a confirmation for estimation of pore shapes and sizes in chosen samples. As expected, concrete saturated with water for a longer period of time had different porosity in comparison with the concrete that came from dry areas. The most influential element for the porosity of bentonite is compaction. The practical part of the thesis shows results of the MIP and SEM methods. The discussion consists of a need for more in situ origin samples and the possible causes of changes in the properties of both materials (concrete and bentonite).
