The Impact of Euro Adoption on Inflation

Abstract:

Cílem této práce je zjistit, zda má přijetí eura vliv na vývoj inflace, popřípadě říci, zda by přijetí eura mohlo mít vliv na inflaci v České republice. První část práce je věnována uvedení do tématu a vysvětlení základních pojmů nutných pro pochopení a porozumění tématu. Ve druhé části je provedeno krátké vyhodnocení ekonomického vývoje ČR a zemí, které již euro přijaly, konkrétně Slovenské republiky, Estonské republiky, Lotyšské republiky a Litevské republiky. Na tuto část navazuje část stěžejní, ve které je nejprve kladen důraz na zhodnocení vyspělosti zmíněných ekonomik vůči eurozóně, a to na základě HDP na hlavu v paritě kupní síly a ukazatele relativní cenové hladiny a poté je analyzován a porovnáván průběh inflace v letech 2008 až 2017 jak u výše zmíněných zemí, tak i v případě eurozóny, s důrazem na období po přijetí eura. Provedená analýza vrcholí srovnáním zkoumaných zemí a eurozóny mezi sebou. Na základě provedeného porovnání a analýzy hodnot inflace u jednotlivých zemí lze říci, že ani v jedné z ekonomik nedošlo po přijetí eura k významnému zvýšení inflace, které by bylo přímo zaviněno přijetím eura, a ne pouze vývojem ekonomiky v celé EU, a tak je pravděpodobné, že by k prudšímu nárůstu inflace nemělo dojít při přijetí eura ani v případě ČR.

Abstract:

The aim of this paper is to find out, whether has the euro adoption impact on inflation and also if the euro adoption could affect inflation in the Czech Republic. The first part of this paper is about introducing to the subject and explaining the basic concepts, which are necessary to understand the subject. In the second part, there is a short evaluation of economic developement of Czech Republic and countries, which have adopted the euro – Slovak Republic, Republic of Estonia, Republic of Latvia and Republic of Lithuania. After that follow the most important parts of this paper, starting with an assesment of the maturity of previously mentioned economies against euroarea using GDP per capita in PPS and CPL. Than, the inflation is being analyzed from 2008 to 2017 for analyzed countries as well as for euroarea, all with emphasis to the period after euro adoption. The top of this analysis is in comparison of analyzed countries and euroarea between themselves. Based on the analysis and comparison made, it can be said, that after euro adoption, there has not been a significant growth of inflation in any of examined economies, which could be directly caused by euro adoption and not only by developement of whole economy and it’s influence itself. According to that, there is a great probability, that there will be no significant growth of inflation in case of euro adoption in the Czech Republic.
