Current cemeteries on Domažlice district - contribution to the archeology of modernity

Abstract:

Během věků se způsob pohřbívání a rituály s ním spojené mnohokrát měnily. V jakékoliv době jim však nemůžeme upřít víru či náboženství s tím spojené. Fenoménu smrti a pohřbívání se věnuje mnoho badatelů, ať se již jedná o období pravěku, starověku či středověku. Na toto téma bylo již napsáno nepřeberné množství článků, populární i odborné literatury. Proto jsem se zaměřila na období, které pro archeology zatím není příliš přitažlivé, a to novověk, respektive moderní dobu (modernitu). Novověké hřbitovy lze studovat z různých úhlů. Zajímavé je sledovat jejich sociální topografii. Dále je možné studovat například rozložení pohřbů na každém jednotlivém pohřebišti, vyšší úrovní je pak srovnávání jednotlivých pohřebišť mezi sebou. Na úrovni pohřebiště lze řešit zejména otázku, zda byli zemřelí ukládáni na ploše hřbitova náhodně, či zda zde existovala nějaká pravidla. Právě s tímto aspektem se potýkám ve své diplomové práci, jejímž tématem jsou současné hřbitovy na Domažlicku. Hlavním cílem je zachycení současné podoby pohřebních areálů z hlediska prostorové organizace, podoby náhrobků a jejich ikonografie, které vypovídají o proměnách společnosti v moderní době. Ústředním tématem je odraz odsunu původního obyvatelstva německé národnosti v některých částech okresu po roce 1945. V obcích na Domažlicku, které byly v letech 1938 - 1945 odtržené od Československa, lze pozorovat různé způsoby chování vůči původním hřbitovům. Nachází se zde hřbitovy částečně vyčištěné od původních hrobů, které jsou stále využívány k pohřbívání (Všeruby, Poběžovice, Hyršov, Nemanice), nevyužívané a zpustlé (Maxov, Šitboř), výlučně s českými hroby (Klenčí, Trhanov), ale také hřbitovy, které se stále využívají a jsou zde vedle sebe české i německé hroby, a to ty původní i nové (Folmava). Zdá se, že na to, v jakém jsou stavu, má velký vliv, jaké procento obyvatel bylo v obcích zastoupeno občany německé národnosti a v jaké oblasti se nachází. Respektive, zda obec byla, či nebyla ovlivněna vybudováním Železné opony. Hřbitovy v těchto obcích byly minimálně do roku 1989, než došlo k uvolnění hranic, ve velmi špatném stavu. V posledních letech dochází k obnově těchto hřbitovů, často i za účasti bývalých německých obyvatel nebo jejich potomků.

Abstract:

Over the ages, the way of burial and the rituals associated with it has changed many times. However, we cannot deny them the faith or the religion connected with it. Many scholars devote to the phenomenon of death and burial, whether it is a period of prehistoric times, ancient times or the Middle Ages. Numerous articles of popular and reference literature have already been written on this topic. That is why I focused on a period that is not so attractive for archeology - on Modern time (Modernity). Modern time cemeteries can be studied from different perspectives. It is interesting to observe their social topography. It is also possible to study the distribution of funeral at each individual burial site, the higher level is then the comparison of each burial site between one other. At the level of the burial ground, it is possible to monitor either the deceased were placed on the area of the cemetery accidentally, or there were some rules. I am dealing with this aspect in my diploma thesis, which focuses on the current cemeteries in Domažlice area. The main objective is to capture the present form of burial grounds in terms of the spatial organization, the shape of tombstones and their iconography, which reflect the changes of society in modern times. The central theme is the reflection of the expulsion of native German population in some parts of the district after 1945. In the villages of Domažlice area, which were separated from Czechoslovakia between 1938 and 1945, different types of the behavior to the original cemeteries can be observed. There are cemeteries partially cleaned from the original graves, which are still used for burials (Všeruby, Poběžovice, Hyrsov, Nemanice), unused and deserted cemeteries (Maxov, Šitboř), cemeteries with only Czech graves (Klenčí, Trhanov), but also the ones which are still used and there are Czech and German graves next to each other (Folmava). It seems that their condition is influenced by the extent of the population nationality and the area in which they are located. More precisely, whether the village was or was not affected by the construction of the Iron Curtain. Cemeteries in these municipalities were in a very poor condition, at least until 1989, before the border was released. In recent years, these cemeteries have been restored, often with the participation of former German inhabitants or their descendants.
