Application of gamification and flipped learning elements in lessons of Spanish as a foreign language

Abstract:

The main topic of this diploma thesis is the application of some elements of gamification and flipped learning in regular lessons of Spanish as a foreign language at secondary schools and other second level education establishments. The theoretical part presents two concepts: flipped learning (its development, four mainstays, theoretical base, the role of motivation, etc.) and gamification (its definition, main elements, gamification of flipped classroom and its advantages and disadvantages). We focus on exploitability of Information and communications technology (ICT), as it forms part of the two concepts mentioned. The practical part consists of various activities divided into three thematic weeks where we employ the knowledge acquired previously. We count on one class (45 minutes) and one seminar (90 minutes) per week. Activities are targeted at students between 14-16 years with language level A2 according to CEFR.

Abstract:

Hlavnou témou tejto diplomovej práce je využitie niektorých prvkov gamifikácie a prevráteného vyučovania v bežných hodinách španielskeho jazyka realizovateľných na stredných školách a štvorročných gymnáziách. V teoretickej časti sú predstavené dva koncepty: prevrátené vyučovanie (jeho vývoj, štyri základné piliere, teoretický základ, úloha motivácie, atď.) a gamifikácia (definícia, jej základné elementy, gamifikácia v prevrátenej triede a s ňou spojené výhody a nevýhody). Zameriavame sa taktiež na využiteľnosť informačných a komunikačných technológií, ktoré sú úzko späté so spomínanými pojmami. Praktická časť pozostáva z návrhu konkrétnych aktivít rozdelených do 3 tematických týždňov, kde aplikujeme poznatky z teoretickej časti. Počítame s jednou hodinou (45minút) a jedným seminárom (90minút) do týždňa. Aktitivity sú cielené pre žiakov v rozmedzí 14-16 rokov s jazykovou úrovňou A2 podľa SERR.
