Influence of different moisture content of wood on bonding strength of wood-based materials

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce řeší vztah mezi obsahem vlhkosti dřeva při lepenía výslednou pevností lepeného spoje a vliv změny vlhkosti a teploty okolního prostředí na pevnost lepeného spoje. Dalším cílem je stanovení podílu porušení ve dřevěa stanovení vlhkosti dřevěných vzorků při testování. Experimenty byly prováděnyna dvou různých dřevinách za použití pěti druhů lepidel. Teoretická část práce analyzuje vlhkostní vlastnosti dřeva, mechanické vlastnosti lepených spojů a různé vlivy na jejich pevnost. Dále shrnuje hlavní informace o lepidlech, technologii lepení, výrobě nábytkových polotovarů a také popisuje dřeviny a lepidla používané v nábytkářské výrobě. Praktická část stanovuje postup řešení diplomové práce, kdy byly vyrobeny vzorky pro dva hlavní experimenty. V rámci prvního pokusu byly vzorky umístěnydo klimatizační komory a lepené spoje tak byly namáhány zvýšenou teplotou a vlhkostí. Druhým experimentem bylo slepování lamel s rozdílným obsahem vlhkosti. Podle předepsaných norem a zkušebních metod byla v obou případech stanovena pevnost lepené spáry a byl stanoven procentuální podíl porušení ve dřevě.Přínosem této práce jsou dva hlavní závěry. Bylo potvrzeno, že změny teplotya vlhkosti prostředí ovlivňují výslednou pevnost lepeného spoje určitých druhů lepidel. Za druhé bylo zjištěno, že existuje vztah mezi obsahem vlhkosti dřeva při lepenía výslednou pevností lepené spáry u určitých druhů dřevin a lepidel.

Abstract:

This diploma thesis is focused on the relationship between moisture contentof wood during bonding and the final bond strength and the effect of changes of humidity and temperature on the bond strength. Another purpose is to determine the portionof wood failure and determine the humidity of the wood samples during testing. Experiments were carried out on two different wood species using five types of adhesives.The theoretical part analyzes the moisture properties of wood, mechanical properties of bonded joints and various effects on their strength. It summarizesthe main informations about adhesives, gluing technology, products for manufacturing and also describes wood species and glues used in production of furniture.The practical part defines the resolution of the diploma thesis where samples were made for two main experiments. In the first experiment samples were placedinto the environmental chamber and bonded joints were stressed by increasing temperature and humidity. The second experiment was bonding wood with different moisture content. In both cases the strength of the glued joint and the percentage of failure in wood was determined according to prescribed standards and test methods.The results of this work are two main conclusions. It was confirmedthat the changes of temperature and humidity influence the bond strengthof specific types of adhesives. Secondly it has been found that there is a relationship between the moisture content of the wood during bonding and the final bond strengthof specific woods and adhesives.
