Populism and the analysis of the Hugo Chávez politics

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce je pojata jako analýza politiky Huga Cháveze ve vybraném období jeho vlády a jeho využívání populismu jako nástroje zisku a udržení moci. V teoretické části je představen průřez současného politologického chápání toho, co je populismus. V analytické části se zaměřuje nejprve na hnutí MVR, které poskytovalo Chávezovi podporu a následně na jednotlivé aspekty námi zkoumaného případu. Takto získané výsledky následně porovnáváme s teoretickým rámcem, který je nám poskytnut politologickým chápáním toho, co je populismus. Cílem práce bude snaha o popsání charakteristických projevů, znaků populismu Huga Cháveze.

Abstract:

This bachelor´s thesis is written as an analysis of Hugo Chávez´s policies and his usage of populism in order to gain and preserve political power at a certain time of his reign. The first theoritical part of the thesis contains the synthesis of contemporary concepts of populism in political science. In the second, analytical part, I focus on the MVR movement which provided an political support to Chávez and then we také a closer look on certain aspects of chosen case. Consequently, we compare described facts with chosen theoretical political science concept of populism. The aim of this thesis is to describe the characteristic signs of Hugo Chávez´s populism.
