Abstract:

Tato práce zkoumala vliv mzdy a vzdělávání jako faktorů nezaměstnanosti v roce 2008 v Ghaně. Údaje pro tuto studii byly získány ze Světových indikátorů rozvoje a rovněžz průzkumu životních standardů Ghany. Zahrnovaly období let 1990 až 2016, protože to byloobdobí, ve kterém byly k dispozici požadované údaje pro proměnné. Ve studii byl užitpro analýzu vektorový autoregresivní model (VAR). Volba modelu VAR byla založena na skutečnosti, že studijní proměnné byly integrovány, ale nebyly kointegrovány poté, co byl proveden jednotkový kořenový a rovněž kointegrační test. Modelovanými proměnnými byly nezaměstnanost, vzdělání a minimální mzdy. Tato studie použila minimální mzdy, které představují mzdy v modelu kvůli nedostatku obecných údajů o mzdách. Vzdělávání bylo rozděleno na dvě: terciární a sekundárníškolní vzdělání. Byly generovány dva modely VAR. První (model 1) využil nezaměstnanosti, minimálních mezd a terciárního vzdělávání jako jeho proměnných. Druhá (model 2) využíl nezaměstnanost, minimální mzdy a středoškolské vzdělání jako modelované proměnné. Výsledky byly tvořeny impulsními odezvami různých proměnných na změny v ostatních proměnných a také zahrnovaly výsledky testů příčinné kauzality. Výsledky funkcí impulsní odezvy ukazují, že jak minimální mzdy, tak vzdělání nemají významný dopad na nezaměstnanost v Ghaně. Výsledky kauzálního testu navíc nevykazují žádné důkazy příčinné souvislosti mezi minimální mzdou a vzděláním v oblasti nezaměstnanosti. Studie tedy doporučuje reformy, aby se zajistilo, že vzdělávání a mzdy budou mít významný vliv na zaměstnanost v Ghaně.

Abstract:

This thesis investigated the impact of wages and education as determinants of unemployment in Ghana. The data for the study was obtained from the World Development Indicators and also from the Ghana Living Standards Survey. It covered the period 1990 to 2016 because this was the period in which the required data for the study variables were available. The study employed a Vector Autoregressive (VAR) model for the analysis. The choice of a VAR model was based on the fact that the study variables were integrated but not cointegrated after unit root test and cointegration test were performed. The modeled variables were unemployment, education and minimum wages. This study used minimum wages to represent wages in the model due to lack of general data on wages. Education was sub-divided into two: tertiary education and secondary school education. Two VAR models were generated. The first (Model 1) made use of unemployment, minimum wages and tertiary education as its variables. The second (Model 2) made use of unemployment, minimum wages and secondary school education as modeled variables. The results were made up of impulse responses of the various variables to changes in the other variables and also included the results of granger causality tests. The results of the impulse response functions show that both minimum wages and education have no significant impact on unemployment in Ghana. In addition, the results of the causality test show no evidence of causation between minimum wages and education on unemployment. Thus, the study suggests reforms to ensure that education and wages play meaningful roles in impacting on employment in Ghana.
