The Level of Communication Skills of Children in Preschool and Young School Age from Romany Community

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá komunikačními dovednostmi dětí pocházející z uzavřené romské komunity.Výzkumné šetření proběhlo u dětí v předškolním a mladším školním věku a týkalo se jejich psychomotorického vývoje a zvláště komunikačních dovedností. Výsledky jsou porovnány s výsledky stejně starých dětí z jiného města. Výzkum byl doplněn případovými studiemi dětí. Cílem diplomové práce je analyzovat komunikační úroveň dětí ve věku náročném na socializaci (předškolní věk) a v období vstupu do základního vzdělávání. Dílčím cílem teoretické části je uvedení do problematiky komunikačních schopností romského etnika, specifičnosti jejich kultury a rodinného života a vysvětlení, jak tyto odlišnosti způsobují znevýhodnění. Dále jsou popsány způsoby a metody aktivizace a rozvoje osobnosti u romských uživatelů v rámci poskytování služeb Diakonii ČCE. Výzkum je doplněn názory a zkušenostmi pedagogických a sociální pracovníků týkajících se faktorů ovlivňujících vývoj řeči v českém jazyce a vhodných přístupů a metod práce s romskými dětmi.

Abstract:

This thesis deals with communication skills of children living in the closed Romany community. The research was carried out with children in preschool an young school age and it concerned their psychomotor development and particularly their communication skills. The results of two partial researches with two groups of children in the same age but from different towns were compared. The research was supplemented with case studies of the children. The aim of the thesis was to analyse the level of communication skills of Romany children in the period of life which is very important for socialization (preschool age) and in the period in the beginning of education at elementary school.The aim of the theoretical part is to show how the cultural differences between the major society and Romany minority cause the social disadvantage of Romany community. Further, methods used in educational activities in non-profit organization Diakonie ČCE are described. The research was supplemented with opinions and experience of social workers, educational staff and Romany childrens’ parents. Their opinions were elicited by interviews about the factors which influence the development of the childrens’ Czech language skills and about useful strategy for work with Romany children.
