Influence of the allelopathic properties of invasive neophytes on the river system diversity

Abstract:

Allelopathic properties of invasive plant species are one of the factors that affect their ability to crowd out native plant species and to create relatively homogeneous plots. This leads to a reduction in species diversity of plant communities in the landscape. In literature retrieval of this thesis, the biological mechanisms of invasive plant success over natives are explained, while the major part is devoted to the allelopathy and how allelochemicals affect the biochemical processes in plants. The research methods of allelopathic properties of plant species and the effects of the spread of invasive plant species to species diversity of plant communities river systems are also described. In the experimental part of this thesis the changes in the chemical and physical properties of the substrate, the number of plant species and diversity index in samples with different distributions of invasive species (Helianthus tuberosus, Impatiens glandulifera and Reynoutria japonica) are studied in riverbed of the Bečva River. In laboratory conditions, the seed germination of the two native plant species (Urtica dioica and Mentha longifolia) in samples of soil/sediment sampled in areas with domination of the aforementioned invasive species is investigated. The results of the research lead to the conclusion that invasive species are found mainly on areas with higher nutrient contents and the diversity as well as the number of plant species in these areas is lower compared to the areas populated by native species. Lower germination (and hence allelopathy) was demonstrated only in the seeds of U. dioica, germinated in samples, which was sampled from areas with from H. tuberosus. The results of field research corresponded quite well with the results of laboratory tests. The knowledges from theoretical and experimental parts were used in the creation of teaching materials for secondary schools.

Alelopatické vlastnosti invazivních druhů rostlin jsou jedním z faktorů, které ovlivňují jejich schopnost vytláčet původní druhy rostlin, čímž se vytváří relativně homogenní porosty, a dochází k poklesu druhové diverzity rostlinných společenstev v krajině. V rešeršní části této diplomové práce jsou vysvětleny mechanizmy působení invazivních druhů rostlin na ostatní druhy rostlin, přičemž větší část je věnována právě alelopatii a působení alelopatických látek na biochemické procesy v rostlinách. Popsané jsou taky metody výzkumu alelopatických vlastností rostlinných druhů a dopady šíření invazivních druhů rostlin na druhovou diverzitu rostlinných společenstev říčních ekosystémů. V experimentální části jsou pomoci terénního výzkumu, prováděného v korytě Bečvy, sledovány změny v chemických a fyzikálních vlastnostech substrátu a v počtu rostlinných druhů a indexu diverzity na plochách s různým zastoupením invazivních druhů (Helianthus tuberosus, Impatiens glandulifera a Reynoutria japonica). V laboratorních podmínkách je sledována klíčivost semen dvou druhů rostlin (Urtica dioica a Mentha longifolia) na vzorcích půdy/sedimentů odebraných na plochách s dominantním zastoupením výše zmíněných invazivních druhů. Výsledky výzkumu vedou k závěru, že invazivní druhy se vyskytují převážně na plochách s vyšším obsahem nutrietů. Diverzita i počet rostlinných druhů na těchto plochách je nižší ve srovnání s plochami osídlenými přirozenými druhy. Snížená klíčivost (a tím i alelopatie) byla prokázána jenom u semen rostliny U. dioica, klíčících na vzorcích odebraných z pod H. tuberosus. Výsledky terénního výzkumu poměrně dobře korespondovali s výsledky laboratorních testů. Poznatky získané v teoretické a experimentální části byli využité při tvorbě výukového materiálu pro střední školy.
