The Ottawa Convention (prohibiting the use of landmines) and the Oslo Convention (prohibiting the use of cluster munitions): Analysis of acceptance process and ratification in the selected country (selected countries)

Abstract:

Jedním ze závažných problémů mezinárodní politiky, především v posledních padesáti letech, jsou protipěchotní miny a zároveň tříštivé munice. Protipěchotní miny, jakožto jedny z nejlevnějších zbraní, jejichž manipulace nevyžaduje přímé nasazení vojenských složek, jsou masově využívány v ozbrojených konfliktech a rozmístěny po celém světě. Náklady na odstranění jsou však oproti jejich výrobě značné. Území, pokryta těmito minami se tak stávají hrozbou pro civilní osoby. Podobně je tomu i u tříštivé munice, které se vykazují vysokou efektivností na bojišti, avšak mimo bojiště se stávají taktéž závažným humanitárním problémem. Tato bakalářská práce analyzuje proces přijetí a ratifikace Ottwaské konvence a konvence z Osla ve vybraných zemích a definuje jejich cíle - zneškodnění zásob a zastavení výroby nášlapných min a kazetových munic a pomoc obětem.

Abstract:

One of the major issues of international politics, especially in the last fifty years, are anti-personnel mines and cluster munitions. Anti-personnel mines, as one of the cheapest weapons, which does not require manual handling by the deployment of military forces, are used heavily in armed conflicts and they are deployed worldwide. Costs for removing are much more lower compared to their production. The territory covered by these mines is thus a threat to civilians. Similar is the case with cluster munitions, which have high efficiency on and off the battlefield but also become a serious humanitarian problem. This bachelor thesis analyzes the process of adoption and ratification of Mine Ban Treaty and Convention on Cluster Munition in selected countries and define their global aims - the elimination of stocks of landmines and cluster munitions, stopping the use of those kinds of weapons, or providing assistance to victims.
