Influence of the hospitalization on a cognitive functions, an executive functions and an emocionality in the elderly.

Abstract:

Cíl: Cílem práce bylo zhodnotit vliv hospitalizace na kognitivní, exekutivní funkce a emotivitu u seniorů, hospitalizovaných ve vybraném zdravotnickém zařízení. Metodika: Výzkumný soubor tvořili pacienti přijati na oddělení interny a chirurgie Vítkovické nemocnice a. s. v Ostravě. Celkový soubor tvořilo 124 pacientů. Vstupním kritériem byl věk minimálně 65 let, horní hranice nebyla limitována. Kvantitativní výzkum byl proveden formou standardizovaných dotazníků, které byly doplněny o demografická data a délku pobytu ve zdravotnickém zařízení. K hodnocení kognitivních funkcí byl použit MMSE test, k hodnocení exekutivních funkcí TMT test a ke zhodnocení emotivity GDS test. Dotazníkové šetření probíhalo vždy při přijetí a následně při propuštění ze zdravotnického zařízení. Výsledky: Na základě zpracování dat nebyl potvrzen vliv hospitalizace na kognitivní nebo exekutivní funkce ani na emotivitu respondentů zařazených do výzkumného souboru. Pohlaví seniorů, ani jejich umístění na chirurgickém nebo interním oddělení nemělo vliv na hodnocení v provedených testech. Na základě statistického testování bylo určeno, že významný vliv na výsledné hodnocení použitých v testech má dosažené vzdělání. Závěr: Je nutné se zabývat problematikou seniora v oblasti zpracování informací, rozhodování, plánování a emocí. Použití diagnostických metod v průběhu hospitalizace může přinést cenné informace pro zdravotnické pracovníky z pohledu péče o jejich bezpečí, spokojenost, psychickou pohodu a následnou péči.

Abstract:

The aim: The aim of the work was to evaluate the influence of hospitalization on cognitive and executive functions as well as emotiveness of the senior citizens who were hospitalized in the selected medical institution. Methodology: The research sample included the patients of the surgical and internal medicine wards of The Vítkovice hospital, plc. in Ostrava. The observed sample included 124 patients. The entrance criteria was the age limit of the patients (at least 65 years , no maximal age limit was given). The quantitative research was made in the form of the standardized questionnaires. The questionnaires included demographic data and the length of the stay in the observed medical institution. MMSE test was used to evaluate the cognitive functions, TMT test was used to evaluate executive functions and GDS test was used to evaluate emotiveness. The questionnaires were always answered at the beginning and the end of the stay at the medical institution. Results: Based on the analysis of the collected data, no influence of the hospitalization on cognitive and executive functions and emotiveness of the respondents has been proved. Neither sex nor the fact of the stay at surgical or internal medicine ward had the influence on the evaluation in the tests. On the other hand, the tests have proved a great influence of the level of patients´ education in the terms ot the final evaluation. The details of the patients´education have been recorded in the work. Conclusion: It is necessary to take an account on the issue of a senior citizen in the terms of information evaluation, decision making, making plans as well as emotions. Using the above mentioned diagnostic methods during patients´ hospitalization can bring valuable information for medical and paramedical staff from the point of view of patinets´safety, contentment, mental well-being and subsequent health care.
