Tato práce si klade za cíl zkoumat přítomnost jedenácti biblických idiomů v americkém tisku. Přesněji řečeno, důraz je kladen na posun významu, ke kterému pravděpodobně došlo v průběhu existence daných idiomů. Souběžně je do popředí kladena také otázka jejich náboženské konotace. The aim of this thesis is to study the presence of eleven selected Biblical idioms in the American press. Precisely, the stress is put on the meaning they carry nowadays and on the possible shift of their meaning which has probably occurred during time.
