The role of physiotherapy in the treatment of disorders and chronic pain of the temporomandibular joint.

Abstract:

Temporomandibular joint disorders are common in adults; about one in three adults claim to have one or more symptoms associated with temporomandibular joint dysfunction, which include pain in the jaw or neck, chewing disorders due to altered joint opening, chronic headache. The etiology of ATM disorders is still not exactly defined, but is probably multifactorial: capsule inflammation, as well as muscle pain or spasm may be caused by abnormal occlusion, parafunctions (eg, bruxism), stress , anxiety, or intraarticular disk abnormalities. In recent years, many theories about developing ATM disorders have been screened.

Abstract:

I disturbi articolari temporomandibolari sono comuni negli adulti; circa un adulto su tre dichiara di presentare uno o pi? sintomi associati al malfunzionamento dell'articolazione temporomandibolare, che comprendono dolore alla mandibola o al collo, disturbi della masticazione per alterata apertura dell'articolazione, mal di testa cronico. L'eziologia dei disturbi dell'ATM non ? ancora esattamente definita, ma ? probabilmente multifattoriale: l'infiammazione della capsula, cos? come il dolore muscolare o lo spasmo possono essere causati da un'occlusione anormale, parafunzioni (ad esempio, bruxismo), stress, ansia, o anomalie del disco intra-articolare.
