Approaches and strategies of teachers in the education of students with special educational needs - developmental learning disabilities in an inclusive school environment

Abstract:

Learning disabilities are questionable in many cases. Lot off teachers struggle with conflicting opinions, questions and ideas about students with learning disabilities. On the one hand some teachers compare them with lazy students who just do not want to learn and fulfill their responsibilities for school. On the other hand there are people who try to help students with learning disabilities. Currently, such students are actively working at schools, that have special educators and overall awareness of inclusive education has already received a positive feedback. An important milestone is proper diagnosis and early intervention, which advances the education of students with learning disabilities. Presently, there is a growing trend of students with learning disabilities and their confirmed diagnosis. There are students who belong to the risk group of students and who show signs of learning disabilities, but they have not undergone a diagnostic process yet, so they do not belong to the category of integrated students at school. The partial goals focus on the occurrence of at-risk students in primary schools and the recommendations of teachers for their early diagnosis. The dissertation and its research project deal with the approaches and strategies of teachers in the education of students with learning disabilities in an inclusive school environment. Educators participate in one of the most important tasks that shape and influence students in their upbringing and education. The aim of the work is to analyze what approaches and strategies teachers use in their work with students with learning disabilities. The data presented are the result of a research project, using a quantitative and qualitative study. It is pointed out at the issue of inclusive education in mainstream primary schools in Slovakia. The information which is available suggests that many educators do not feel well prepared to work with students with learning disabilities. Inclusion as a concept has become a phenomenon today and is inflected around the world. It represents a certain paradigm of special pedagogy, touching all areas of human life. The evolution of human thinking and direction have been shifted. Many authors provide definitions of inclusion, but only some of them for a basic explanation of the terms are listed. The application of the inclusion and its elements to the process of education and society is a difficult way, which is beyond a number of factors affecting it. First of all, there are all employees who are directly affected by this topic, namely: school management, teachers, educators, special educators, school psychologists, assistant teachers and students. All these qualified professionals directly influence the process of the inclusion in education itself. However, they are linked to innovative educational methods, forms, teaching materials, school equipment, the erudition of qualified teachers and countless other factors that either directly or indirectly affect inclusion in the educational process.

Abstract:

Špecifické poruchy učenia sú aktuálnou témou. Veľa učiteľov zápasí s protichodnými názormi, otázkami a predstavami o študentoch s poruchami učenia. Na jednej strane ich niektorí učitelia porovnávajú s neporiadnymi žiakmi, ktorí nemajú záujem učiť sa a plniť si svoje povinnosti. Na druhej strane sú učitelia, ktorí sa snažia pomôcť žiakom s poruchami učenia čo najviac. V súčasnosti žiaci aktívne pracujú na školách, ktoré majú špeciálnych pedagógov a celkové povedomie o inkluzívnom vzdelávaní už získalo pozitívnu spätnú väzbu. Dôležitým medzníkom je správna diagnostika a včasná ranná intervencia, ktoré napredujú vo vzdelávaní žiakov s poruchami učenia. Stále narastá trend žiakov s poruchami učenia s ich potvrdenou diagnostikou. Existujú však žiaci, ktorí patria do rizikovej skupiny žiakov, ktorí vykazujú príznaky porúch učenia, ale zatiaľ neprešli diagnostickým procesom, takže nepatria do kategórie integrovaných žiakov na škole. Dizertačná práca a jej výskumný projekt sa zaoberajú prístupom a stratégiami pedagógov pri vzdelávaní žiakov s poruchami učenia v inkluzívnom školskom prostredí. Pedagógovia sa podieľajú na jednej z najdôležitejších úloh, ktoré formujú a ovplyvňujú žiakov pri výchove a vzdelávaní. Cieľom práce je analyzovať aké prístupy a stratégie používajú pedagógovia pri svojej práci so žiakmi s poruchami učenia. Prezentované údaje sú výsledkom výskumného projektu s využitím kvantitatívnej a kvalitatívnej štúdie. Poukazuje sa na problematiku inkluzívneho vzdelávania v bežných základných školách na Slovensku. Informácie, ktoré sú k dispozícií naznačujú, že mnoho pedagógov sa necíti dobre pripravených na prácu so žiakmi s poruchami učenia. Inklúzia ako pojem sa dnes stala fenoménom a skloňuje sa po celom svete. Predstavuje určitú paradigmu špeciálnej pedagogiky, ktorá sa dotýka všetkých oblastí ľudského života. Vývoj ľudského myslenia a smerovania sa posunul. Aplikácia inklúzie a jej prvkov na proces vzdelávania a spoločnosti je zložitá a presahuje množstvo faktorov, ktoré ju ovplyvňujú. V prvom rade sú to všetci zamestnanci, ktorých sa táto téma priamo dotýka a to: vedenie školy, učitelia, pedagógovia, školskí špeciálni pedagógovia, školskí psychológovia, asistenti učiteľa a samotní žiaci. Všetci zúčastnení odborníci priamo ovplyvňujú samotný proces inklúzie do vzdelávania. Súvisia však aj s inovatívnymi vzdelávacími metódami, formami, učebnými materiálmi , vybavením školy a hlavne erudovanosťou kvalifikovaných učiteľov. Taktiež nespočetnými ďalšími faktormi, ktoré priamo alebo nepriamo ovplyvňujú začlenenie do vzdelávacieho procesu.
