The position of the Serb minority in Kosovo

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se zabývá postavením srbské menšiny v Kosovu po roce 2008, kdy Kosovo jednostranně vyhlásilo nezávislost na Srbsku a Srbové se tak stali menšinou v nově ustaveném státě. Jejím cílem je zhodnotit postavení kosovských Srbů od roku 2008 do současnosti a identifikovat faktory, které jejich situaci ovlivňují. V první teoretické části práce je nejprve pojednáno o menšinách a nejdůležitějších dokumentech týkajících se menšin, ukazatelích postavení menšin v rámci státu, zahrnujících druhy postojů majority k menšinám, dále o lingvistických, náboženských právech menšin, poté o jejich politické participaci a socioekonomickém statusu. Následná empirická část nejprve pojednává o geografickém rozmístění kosovských Srbů, jejich mateřském jazyce a náboženství. Dále jsou analyzována jejich jazyková, náboženská práva, politická participace a jejich zastoupení v kosovských institucích a poslední podkapitola rozebírá jejich socioekonomickou situaci. V závěru práce jsou shrnuty získané poznatky.

Abstract:

This thesis deals with the position of the Serbian minority in Kosovo after 2008, when Kosovo unilaterally declared independence from Serbia and Serbs became a minority in the newly established state. It aims to assess the position of Kosovo Serbs from 2008 to the present and to identify the factors that influence their situation. The first theoretical part of the thesis first discusses minorities and the most important documents concerning minorities, indicators of minority status within the state, including types of majority attitudes towards minorities, then linguistic, religious rights of minorities, then their political participation and socio-economic status. The following empirical section first discusses the geographical location of Kosovo Serbs, their mother tongue and religion. Next, their language, religious rights, political participation, and their representation in Kosovo institutions are analyzed, and the last subsection discusses their socioeconomic status. The thesis concludes with a summary of the findings.
