Factors of language development at bilingual children

Abstract:

In my diploma thesis I'm going to investigate important factors, which influence language and cultural learning of students from Czech Republic studying in Austrian primary school Drasenhofen. This thesis is focused on a very actual and often discussed topic. In times of growing globalization it's seen as quite normal phenomenon to learn and speak more languages. In the Austrian primary school Drasenhofen it is already 20 years ago, when an international project started. Until today the classes include children from different countries and with different nationalities. The whole thesis is oriented on description and investigating of factors, which can influence the development of second language by Czech children visiting this primary school. Factors are divided into three groups: first group of factors is handling cognitive or rational area. Second group of factors contains the factors from area of emotions. Third and the last group is composed from factors of social student environment, or in other words said interaction between students and the teacher and factor of the language input. In the practical part are these mentioned factors observed directly in the school environment, as in the lessons as during the breaks. Second part of the practical study, which is based on collecting data using questionnaire, has the task to confirm or complete the information gained from the authentic observation. Through questionnaires sent to four of students studying primary school in Czech Republic I want to find out, which factor played the most significant role during learning the German language, in the same time taught the same content and in German language. At the end it should have been found out, which of the factors are most influencing the process of learning a foreign language, which is ongoing on primary school Drasenhofen, in the lessons, in the phases, which are not controlled by the teacher and extracurricular activities, happening in the Austrian territory with Austrian students.

Abstract:

Ve své diplomové práci se budu zabývat důležitými faktory, ovlivňující jazykové a kulturní učení žáků z České republiky v rakouské ZŠ Drasenhofen. Tato práce se opírá o velmi aktuální a často diskutované téma. Nacházíme se v čase stále více narůstající globalizace a na osvojování si a znalost více jazyků je dnes pohlíženo jako na zcela normální jev. Na rakouské základní škole v Drasenhofenu byl již před 20 lety započat mezinárodní projekt. Třídy na této škole jsou dodnes složené z dětí z různých zemí a různých národností. Celková práce je zaměřená na popis a zkoumání faktorů, které mohou ovlivňovat vývoj osvojování si druhého jazyka u českých dětí navštěvujících tuto základní školu. Faktory jsou rozdělené do tří supin: první skupina faktorů se zabývá kognitivní neboli rozumovou oblastí. Druhá skupina faktorů je složená z faktorů z oblasti emocionální, v této práci dále jako afektivní faktory. Třetí a poslední skupinu tvoří faktor sociální prostředí žáků, resp. interakce mezi žáky a učitelem a faktor jazykový input. V empirické části jsou tyto zmíněné faktory pozorované přímo ve školním prostředí, jak ve vyučování, tak i o přestávkách. Druhá část empirické studie, která je založená na získávání dat pomocí dotazníků, má za úkol informace získané z autentického pozorování potvrdit popř. doplnit. Prostřednictvím dotazníků rozeslaných na čtyři žáky základní školy z České republiky, se chci dozvědět, které faktory hrály při osvojování si německého jazyka při výuce daných obsahu výhradně v německém jazyce nejvýznamnější roli. V závěru by mělo být zjištěno, který(é) ze zkoumaných faktorů nejvíce ovlivňují proces nauky cizího jazyka, který probíhá na základní škole v Drasenhofenu, jak ve vyučování, tak i v učitelem neřízených fázích a mimoškolních aktivitách, probíhajících na rakouském území s rakouskými spolužáky.
