Reflexivity of the social workers working with Roma people

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se zabývá reflexivitou u sociálních pracovníků pracujících s Romy. Romové jsou etnickou menšinou u níž se projevuje vysoká míra sociálního vyloučení a sociální pracovníci tudíž často s romskými klienty spolupracují. Různí se názory na to, zda a jak etnicitu klientů zohledňovat. Mezi nejvýraznější přístupy patří etnická senzitivita a antidiskriminační přístup, které však nejsou přísně dichotomické a v praxi se jejich východiska často střetávají i prolínají. Sociální pracovníci jsou odkázáni na svou reflexivitu, jakožto nástroj pro orientaci při rozhodování se mezi těmito imperativy. V této diplomové práci představuji kvalitativní výzkum provedený za účelem prozkoumání interakcí mezi reflexivitou sociálních pracovníků a různých pojetí etnicity klientů. Data shromážděná během 9 polostrukturovaných rozhovorů se sociálními pracovnicemi pracujícími s Romy zde podrobuji analýze dle metody konstruktivistické zakotvené teorie a výstupy jsou následně interpretuji. Cíl práce byl naplněn a výsledkem je odkrytí interakcí relevantních kategorií.

Abstract:

This thesis deals with reflexivity of social workers working with Roma people. The Roma are an ethnic minority group experiencing a high level of social exclusion thus social workers often get work with Roma clients. Views on whether and how to take the ethnicity of clients into account vary vastly. The most prominent approaches include ethnic sensitivity and anti-discriminatory approach, which however are not strictly dichotomous and in practice their starting points often clash and intersect. Social workers are dependent on their reflexivity as a tool to navigate between these imperatives. In this thesis, I present qualitative research conducted in order to explore the interactions between social workers' reflexivity and different conceptions of client ethnicity. Here, I subject the data collected during 9 semi-structured interviews with social workers working with Roma to analysis according to the constructivist grounded theory method, and I subsequently interpret the outcomes. The aim of the thesis has been fulfilled and the result is the uncovering of relevant categories' interactions.
