Stárnutí představuje proces, při němž během času dochází k poklesu účinnosti reparačních a antioxidačních mechanismů, což vede k produkci reaktivních forem kyslíku a dusíku, které poškozují řadu biomolekul. Ty nejsou efektivně eliminovány a dochází k hromadění škodlivých látek, které mohou negativně ovlivňovat činnost organismu a napomáhat rozvoji zánětlivého procesu. Aging represents a process in which the efficiency of repair and antioxidant mechanisms decrease over time, which leads to production of reactive forms of oxygen and nitrogen, which damage a variety of biomolecules.
