European Train Control System ETCS and its implementation in the Czech Republic with regard to the financial complexity of implementation

Abstract:

Cílem práce je nastínit fungování evropského vlakového zabezpečovacího zařízení ETCS s procesem implementace na český železniční systém. První část se vrací lehce do minulosti a ukazuje, jak probíhal vývoj vlakového zabezpečovacího zařízení na železnicích obecně. V poslední řadě je zobrazena finanční náročnost implementace ETCS, především tedy palubních částí do vozidel. Data byla zpracována především ze zdrojů Správy železnic, Ministerstva dopravy a rozsáhlé knihy, která se zabývá podrobným popisem systému ETCS. Výsledkem práce je zjištění obrovské finanční a technické náročnosti tohoto projektu, což by se však mělo v budoucnu několikanásobně vrátit, protože železnice má obrovský potenciál převzít roli favorita v dopravě. S ohledem na Green Deal a rostoucí udržitelné myšlení se toto postavení ještě umocňuje.

Abstract:

The aim of this work is to outline the operation of the European Train Control System ETCS with the process of implementation on the Czech railway system. The first part goes back a bit and shows how the development of train protection equipment on railways in general took place. Finally, the financial complexity of the implementation of ETCS, especially the on-board parts of vehicles, is shown. The data were processed mainly from the sources of the Railway Administration, the Ministry of Transport and an extensive book dealing with a detailed description of the ETCS system. The result of the work was found to be a enormous financial and technical complexity of this project, which, however, should return several times in the future, because the railway has a huge potential to take on the role of a favorite in transport. With the Green Deal and growing sustainable thinking, this position is amplified even more.
