Multi-criteria evaluation and selection of steel suppliers for bridge crane manufacturing

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zabývá vícekriteriálním hodnocením a výběrem dodavatelů oceli v průmyslovém podniku specializovaném na výrobu mostových jeřábů. Jelikož náklady na hutní materiál tvoří v tomto odvětví více než polovinu celkových výdajů a přímo ovlivňují bezpečnost finální produkce, je hlavním cílem práce návrh modelu pro podporu nákupního rozhodování. Práce je koncepčně rozdělena do dvou hlavních částí. První část vymezuje teoretická východiska vícekriteriální analýzy variant a její klíčové komponenty. Detailně jsou popsány principy Saatyho metody párového srovnání pro stanovení vah kritérií a metoda TOPSIS, založená na geometrické vzdálenosti variant od ideálního řešení. Rešerše dále propojuje tyto matematické postupy se strategickým řízením nákupu a principy řízení dodavatelských vztahů v průmyslové praxi. Druhou část tvoří vlastní praktická aplikace navrženého modelu vícekriteriálního rozhodování na reálná, anonymizovaná data podniku za rok 2025. Na základě pěti strategických kritérií – cenového indexu, ukazatele PPM a logistických parametrů včasnosti a rychlosti dodání – je provedeno komplexní vyhodnocení pěti klíčových dodavatelů. Výsledky analýzy identifikují jako nejvhodnějšího partnera Dodavatele E, u kterého model prokázal nejvyšší míru vyváženosti všech sledovaných parametrů. Závěr práce následně přináší konkrétní doporučení pro optimalizaci dodavatelského portfolia a posílení stability výrobního procesu.

Abstract:

The bachelor’s thesis deals with the multi-criteria evaluation and selection of steel suppliers in an industrial company specializing in the production of overhead bridge cranes. As the costs of metallurgical materials account for more than half of the total expenses in this sector and directly affect the safety of the final product, the main aim of the thesis is to design a model to support purchasing decision-making. Conceptually, the thesis is divided into two main parts. The first part defines the theoretical foundations of multi-criteria decision analysis and its key components. It provides a detailed description of the principles of Saaty’s pairwise comparison method for determining the weights of criteria and the TOPSIS method, which is based on the geometric distance of alternatives from the ideal solution. The literature review further links these mathematical approaches with strategic purchasing management and the principles of supplier relationship management in industrial practice. The second part consists of the practical application of the proposed multi-criteria decision-making model to real, anonymized company data from 2025. Based on five strategic criteria – the price index, the PPM indicator, and logistical parameters of delivery timeliness and speed – a comprehensive evaluation of five key suppliers is carried out. The results of the analysis identify Supplier E as the most suitable partner, as the model demonstrated the highest degree of balance across all monitored parameters. The conclusion of the thesis then provides specific recommendations for optimizing the supplier portfolio and strengthening the stability of the production process.
