Verification of the equivalence of complex span

Abstract:

Cílem této bakalářské práce bylo posoudit ekvivalenci komplexních testů (complex span task, CST) a jednoduchých testů (simple span task, SST). Ekvivalence byla posuzována z hlediska faktorové struktury, korelace s kvantitativním usuzováním, chybovosti při vyplňování testů a srovnání úspěšnosti u obou testů. Zástupcem komplexních testů byl reading span task a zástupcem jednoduchých testů byl digit span, konstruktová validita byla posuzována pomocí testovací hry INVENIO Triton a hladový oceán, který měří kvantitativní usuzování. Výsledky jsou nejednoznačné. Strukturní modelování napovídá, že pro CST a SST existují dva rozdílné faktory, které jsou spolu silně korelovány r = 0,7. Výsledky smíšených modelů, ve kterých byla predikována úspěšnost na základě typu testu a počtu čísel v řadě, ukazují, že CST byla o něco těžší než SST. Zároveň ale úspěšnost u ekvivalentních řad se mezi SST a CST téměř nelišila. Typy chyb se také téměř nelišily a korelace s kvantitativním usuzováním byla u obou testů také stejná.

Abstract:

The aim of this bachelor thesis was to assess the equivalence of com-plex tests (complex span task, CST) and simple tests (simple span task, SST). Equivalence was assessed in terms of factor structure, correlation with quantitative reasoning, error rate when completing the tests and comparison of success in both tests. The representative of the complex tests was the reading span task and the representative of the simple tests was the digit span, concurrent validity was assessed using the In-venio test game Triton a hladový oceán, which measures quantitative reasoning. The results are ambiguous. Structural equation modeling suggests that there are two distinct factors for CST and SST that are highly correlated with each other at r = 0.7. Results of mixed models in which success was predicted by test type and number of numbers in a row show that the CST was slightly more difficult than the SST. At the same time, however, the success rates for equivalent series were almost the same between SST and CST. Error types were also almost indistin-guishable, and correlations with quantitative judgment were also the same for both tests.
