Occupational Therapy interventions for people with dementia

Abstract:

Abstrakt Úvod Bakalářská práce s názvem "Ergoterapeutická intervence u osob s demencí" popisuje stáří, stárnutí a vliv stárnutí na kognitivní funkce. Stručně popisuje demence a některé formy demencí a zaměřuje se na využití ergoterapie u demencí. Cíl práce Cílem práce je stručně popsat problematiku demencí z pohledu ergoterapeuta. Navrhnout vhodné ergoterapeutické přístupy a aplikovat je v praxi u pacienta s demencí v kazuistice v závěru bakalářské práce. Metodika Informace o pacientovi byly získávány pomocí subjektivních a objektivních metod. Konkrétně cíleným rozhovorem s pacientem a jeho příbuznými, dále pozorováním pacienta při různých činnostech a situacích, ale také standardizovanými testy. Na našem pracovišti využíváme test ACE-R a MMSE. Pacient byl vyšetřen pohledem a pohmatem. Získané informace mi posloužily ke stanovení cílů a priorit v léčbě pacienta a stanovení ergoterapeutického léčebného plánu. Výsledky Posouzení úspěšnosti ergoterapeutických intervencí u pacienta s demencí na základě porovnání výsledků ze vstupního a výstupního vyšetření. Návrh dlouhodobého ergoterapeutického plánu s ohledem na další péči o pacienta. Závěr Vyhodnocení spolupráce s pacientem a účinnosti ergoterapeutické intervence. Pacient se zlepšil v soběstačnosti při provádění ADL, lépe se orientuje v čase. Došlo i ke zlepšení kognitivních funkcí. Abstract:

Summary Introduction The bachelor thesis called "Occupational Therapy interventions for people with dementia" describes old age, the process of aging, and its effect on cognitive functions. It briefly depicts some types of dementia and focuses on the role of occupational therapy in a patient with dementia. Objective The aim of this thesis is to shortly illustrate the problem of dementia from the perspective of an occupational therapist. Also, the case study intends to suggest appropriate occupational therapy approaches and apply them in practice in a patient with dementia. Methods Information about the patient was obtained using subjective and objective methods. Specifically, a targeted interview with the patient and his relatives was taken, as well as his observation in various activities and situations. Furthermore, standardized ACE-R and MMSE tests were used. The patient was also examined physically including inspection and palpation. From the information obtained, the goals and priorities in his treatment were set and his occupational therapy treatment plan was defined. Results Assessment of the effectiveness of occupational therapy interventions in a patient with dementia based on a comparison of results from the initial and final examination. Proposal of a long-term occupational therapy treatment plan with regard to further patient care. Conclusion Evaluation of cooperation with the patient and the effectiveness of the occupational therapy intervention. The patient has improved in self-sufficiency when performing ADL. He also orientates better in time and his cognitive functions have improved. Keywords Alzheimer's disease, basal stimulation, dementia, occupational therapy, cognitive rehabilitation.
