Spain and the Geography of Voting - Case study of the lower Chamber Elections

Abstract:

Práce se zabývá volební podporou dvou hlavních španělských politických stran (Lidová strana, Španělská socialistická dělnická strana) do Dolní komory Parlamentu v letech 1996 až 2008. Úvodní teoretická část se zaměřuje na teorii volební geografie a volebních systémů se zaměřením na Španělsko, také přibližuje její historii a také teorii politických stran s přehledem španělských zastoupených v Dolní komoře Parlamentu. V druhé části se věnuje analýzou průběhu voleb a politickou situací, stanovením území stabilní volební podpory dvou hlavních stran ve volebních obvodech, kde jsou trvale úspěšné. Dále se práce pokouší nastínit možné důvody, které ovlivňují takové chování voličů těchto dvou stran. Součásti práce jsou mapové výstupy reprezentující vítěznou stranu ve volebním obvodě a stabilní volební podporu pro Socialistickou dělnickou stranu Španělska a Lidovou stranu.

Abstract:

This work deals with the electoral support in parliamentary elections of the two main Spanish political parties (the Popular Party, the Spanish Socialist Workers' Party) in the lower Chamber of Parliament between 1996 and 2008. Introductory theoretical part focuses on the theory of electoral geography and electoral systems, focusing on Spain, also sheds its history and the theory of political parties with an overview of Spanish political parties represented in the lower house of Parliament. The second part is devoted to the analysis of electoral and political situations, defining territorial electoral support for the two major parties in the constituencies where they are consistently successful. Then the work tries to outline the possible reasons that affect behaviour of voters of the two parties. This thesis maps the outputs representing the winning party in the constituency and stable electoral support for the Spanish Socialist Worker´s Party and People's Party.
