Framework for enhancing cooperation within virtual agile teams

Abstract:

V poslednej dobe bol v IT pozorovaný rýchly nárast štýlu práce na diaľku. Spolupráca a interakcia vo virtuálnych agilných tímoch sa stávajú kľúčovými pre efektivitu tímu a úspech spoločnosti. Okrem mnohých výhod majú virtuálne tímy aj niektoré výzvy, ktoré je potrebné prekonať. Jednotlivcom pracujúcim v rozptýlenom prostredí chýba osobná spolupráca, ktorá je kľúčom k vybudovaniu efektívne spolupracujúceho tímu. Keď jednotlivci pracujú v spoločnom tíme, sú samozrejmosťou krátke aktivity ako prestávky na kávu, biliard v kancelárii alebo teambuilding. Tieto spájacie aktivity zlepšujú tímovú spoluprácu, keďže si členovia budujú dôveru a lepšie sa spoznávajú. Táto práca sa zameriava na socializáciu tímu pomocou moderných komunikačných a kooperačných technológií. Pomocou týchto technológií môže tím nahradiť niektoré aktivity, napr. nahradiť prestávky na kávu virtuálnymi prestávkami na kávu, teambuilding online teambuildingom a pod. Online aktivity realizované v tejto práci boli zamerané na zlepšenie individuálnej komunikácie, dôvery a psychickej pohody v tíme. Vplyv navrhovanej stratégie bol meraný anonymným dotazníkom zaslaným členom tímu.

Abstract:

Recently, a rapid increase in remote work style was observed in IT. Cooperation and interaction in virtual agile teams become crucial to team effectiveness and company success. Besides many benefits, virtual teams have some challenges necessary to overcome. Individuals working in the dispersed environment are missing face-to-face collaboration, which is a key to building an efficiently cooperating team. When individuals work in a co-located team, short activities like coffee breaks, playing pool in the office, or teambuilding are a matter of course. These bonding activities improve the team's cooperation as the members build trust and get to know each other better. This thesis focuses on the team's socialization using modern communication and cooperation technologies. Using these technologies, the team can substitute some activities, e.g., replace face-to-face coffee breaks with virtual coffee breaks, teambuilding with online teambuilding, etc. Online activities implemented in this thesis were focused on improving individual communication, trust, and well-being within the team. The impact of the proposed strategy was measured by an anonymous survey sent to team members.
