This Master’s diploma thesis analyses the effect feminism has had on the way female protagonists in North American literature were depicted in the proto-feminist age in Charlotte Perkins Gilman’s short story “The Yellow Wallpaper” (1882) and Kate Chopin’s novel The Awakening (1899) in comparison to the more recent texts from the 1970s, namely Ira Levin’s The Stepford Wives (1972) and Margaret Atwood …more
