Convergent and discriminant validity of Czech version of RAT test (pilot study)

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se věnuje metodě RAT (jinak také test vzdálených asociací), jako jednomu z mála testů kreativity, založenému na měření konvergentního aspektu kreativního myšlení. Drtivá většina testů tvořivosti přitom předpokládá, že je kreativita predikována zejména myšlením divergentním. Některé z nedávných studií nicméně nasvědčují tomu, že je vliv konvergentního myšlení na kreativitu dlouhodobě podceňován. To činí z doposud do českého prostředí neadaptovaného RAT testu metodu hodnou větší pozornosti vědeckého zkoumání. Cílem práce bylo provedení pilotního sběru dat s využitím navrhované verze testu RAT a vyhodnocení jeho konvergentní a diskriminační validity. V teoretické části byly nejprve nastíněny teoretické přístupy k tvořivosti a několik nejdůležitějších faktorů, jež jí ovlivňují. Vzhledem ke specifikům RAT testu bude kladen důraz především na vztah divergentního a konvergentního myšlení a kreativity a inteligence. V empirické části pak byla prověřena konvergentní a diskriminační validita testu pomocí korelací s dalšími diagnostickými metodami. Závěr vztahuje výsledky do kontextu dalších výzkumů a studií.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis deals with RAT (Remote Associates Task), as one of only few tests of creativity, based on the measurements of convergent aspects of creative thinking. Major part of tests of creativity hypothesizes, that creativity is predicted mainly by divergent thinking, but recent studies suggest, that influence of convergent thinking on creativity has long been underestimated. This supposition and the fact that RAT hasn´t been translated into Czech yet suggest that RAT deserves more attention of scientific researchers. Aim of this study is to conduct a pilot study with proposed Czech version of the RAT and to examine the convergent and discriminant validity of it. The theoretical part of thesis will outline main approaches to creativity and factors, which have effect on it. Considering the specifics of RAT, main attention will be given to relationship between divergent and convergent thinking and creativity and intelligence. In the empirical part of the thesis, convergent and discriminant validity of Czech RAT will be examined by exploring correlations of RAT with another diagnostic methods. In conclusion, results will be applied in the context of another studies and research.
