Tombstone of Prince Johann Adam and Wilhelmina of Auersperg in the Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary in Žleby

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce pojednává o náhrobku knížete Jana Adama a jeho manželky Marie Vilemíny z Auerspergu, jenž se nachází v kostele Narození Panny Marie ve Žlebech. Umělecké dílo stojí na pomezí dvou uměleckých epoch, přičemž se svým provedením vymyká dobové tvorbě na našem území. Na povrch vyvstávají nejasnosti v souvislosti s autorstvím a datací uměleckého díla. Náhrobek byl vystavěn v rozmezí dvaceti let od předčasné smrti kněžny v roce 1775 do smrti knížete roku 1795. Ač Jana Adam věnoval náhrobek své zesnulé choti, je zřejmé, že se měl stát místem posledního odpočinku i pro něho samotného. Práce je vystavěná na popisu, analýze a interpretaci sepulkrálního díla. Na základě ikonografického rozboru a komparace s tvorbou vznikající napříč 18. stoletím se snažím zařadit dílo do dobového kontextu.

Abstract:

The bachelor thesis deals with the tombstone of Prince Johann Adam and his wife Marie Wilhelmina of Auersperg, which is located in the Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary in Žleby. The work of art stands on the border of two artistic epochs, while with its design it deviates from contemporary works in our territory. Uncertainties arise in connection with the authorship and dating of the work of art. The tombstone was built between twenty years from the untimely death of the princess in 1775 until the death of the prince in 1795. Although Jana Adam dedicated the tombstone to his deceased wife, it is clear that it was to become a final resting place for himself. The work is based on the description, analysis and interpretation of a sepulchral work. Based on an iconographic analysis and a comparison with works created across the 18th century, I try to place the work in a contemporary context.
