Histological analysis of the liver of rabbits fed milk thistle

Abstract:

Mnoho vědeckých prací popisuje příznivé účinky léčivé byliny ostropestřce mariánského na jaterní parenchym. Záměrem této práce je histologická analýza jater králíků krmených ostropestřcem mariánským. Na experiment bylo použito výkrmové plemeno králíků Hy-la. Pokus byl založen na kontrolní skupině, která byla podávána normální výkrmová směs pro králíky a experimentální skupině, té bylo navíc přidáváno 1 % ostropestřce mariánského po dobu 84 dní. Vzorky jater z obou skupin byly zpracovány histologickou parafínovou metodou. Následně došlo ke zkoumání a vyhodnocení histologické struktury jater pod mikroskopem při zvětšení 100x a 400x. Výsledky neprokázaly očekávané účinky, byla pozorována steatóza jater u obou skupin králíků.

Abstract:

Many scientific publications describe the beneficial effects of the medicinal herb milk thistle on the liver parenchyma. The aim of this study is the histological analysis of the liver of rabbits fed with milk thistle. A fattening breed of Hyla rabbits was used for the experiment. The experiment was based on a control group that was fed a normal fatte-ning rabbit mixture and an experimental group, to which 1 % milk thistle was additiona-lly added for 84 days. Liver samples from both groups were processed by the histologi-cal paraffin method. Subsequently, the histological structure of the liver was examined and evaluated under a microscope at 100x and 400x magnification. The results did not show the expected effects, liver steatosis was observed in both groups of rabbits.
