Smoking as a risk factor in women and its impact on their lifestyle

Abstract:

Diplomová práce shrnuje v teoretické části nejdůležitější poznatky o rozsáhlé problematice kouření cigaret. První část teoretické části se zabývá obecnými informacemi o kouření: prevalencí kuřaček v České republice i ve světě, historií kouření, složením tabákového kouře, druhy tabákových výrobků, podstatou a léčbou závislosti a legislativou kuřáctví. V druhé části práce jsou popsány rizika kouření jednak společná pro obě pohlaví (nádorová onemocnění, kardiovaskulární choroby aj.) a také rizika specifická pro ženy v jednotlivých životních etapách: počátky kouření v dětství, adolescenci, následky na reprodukci (poruchy plodnosti, ovlivnění průběhu samotného těhotenství, prenatálního i postnatálního vývoje dítěte), vliv kouření na kojení, menopauzu a osteoporózu. Třetí část je zaměřena na spojitost kouření cigaret a životního stylu. Jsou zde popisovány nevhodné změny a následky, které kuřácké chování působí v oblasti stravovacích návyků, v konzumaci alkoholu, v pohybové aktivitě či neaktivitě a stresu. Praktická část diplomové práce je zaměřena na zjištění rozdílností v životním stylu kuřaček a nekuřaček. Šetření bylo realizováno formou dotazníkové metody u 200 žen z České republiky. Sledovány byly oblasti: stravovacích zvyklostí, četnosti a množství konzumovaného alkoholu, trávení volného času aktivním pohybem či pasivní zábavou. Výsledky šetření prokázaly shodu se závěry zahraničních i domácích studií: kouření cigaret je spojeno s častějším výskytem dalších rizikových faktorů v životním stylu: s nevhodnou výživou, zvýšenou konzumací alkoholu, s nižší fyzickou aktivitou a vyšší inaktivitou.

Abstract:

The Diploma thesis summarizes in a theoretical part the most important findings about a large scale problematic of cigarette smoking. The first section of the theoretical part deals with general information about smoking: Prevalence of the women smokers in the Czech Republic and in the world, smoking history, composition of the tobacco smoke, kinds of tobacco products, the essence and the cure of the addiction and the legislation on smoking. In the second part of the thesis are described the risks of smoking, partly common to both genders (tumour diseases, cardiovascular illnesses etc.) and also the risks specific for women in particular life stages: smoking origins in the childhood, the adolescence, the effects for reproduction (fertility failures, impact upon pregnancy alone, prenatal and postnatal development of the child), smoking influence on lactation, menopause and osteoporosis. The third part is focused on the nexus of cigarette smoking and lifestyle. There are described impropriate changes and effects, caused by smokers’ behaviour in the field of the eating habits, alcohol consumption, physical activity or inactivity and stress. An applied part of the thesis is aimed for a survey of the difference of the lifestyle of women smokers and non-smokers. The survey has been carried out in a way of a questionnaire method in 200 women from the Czech Republic. The following areas were monitored: alimentation habits, frequency and amount of consumed alcohol, spending of free time with active movement or passive entertainment (media use). The findings of the survey proved the congruence of foreign and home studies: cigarette smoking is connected with more frequented occurrence of further risky factors in the lifestyle: with an unsuitable diet, raised alcohol consumption, lower physical activity and higher inactivity.
