The life cycle types of stoneflies (Plecoptera) in intermittent stream

Abstract:

V této bakalářské práci byla věnována pozornost popisu životních cyklů pošvatek ve vysychavém toku. K tomuto účelu mně posloužily kvantitativní vzorky z bentometrů a semikvantitativní multihabitatové vzorky PERLA, které byly odebírány v 13 termínech během roku 2005 na Gránickém potoce u Znojma. Na lokalitě bylo zjištěno 9 taxonů pošvatek a na základě tří rozměrů (šířka hlavy v linii očí, délka těla a délka případných křídelních pochev) pak byly u 7 z nich popsány jejich životní cykly. Vývojové cykly všech dominantních druhů pošvatek byly na lokalitě univoltinní, což se po uvážení nadmořské výšky a zeměpisné šířky shodovalo i s publikovanými údaji. Podobně vykazovala na dané lokalitě univoltinní cyklus i většina taxonů jepic a chrostíků, i když pošvatky emergovaly ve srovnání s nimi zpravidla dříve. Všechny dominantní druhy pošvatek vylétaly totiž ještě před příchodem sucha, takže do životního cyklu larev tento stresor nezasáhnul. To naznačuje, že by některé druhy pošvatek mohly být použity jako indikátory vysychání. Sucho pak pošvatky přečkávaly pravděpodobně pomocí diapauzy vajec a nymf, setrváním v intersticiální zóně a ve zbytkových tůních.

Abstract:

The aim of this thesis was to describe the life cycles of stoneflies in intermittent stream. For this purpose I used the quantitative samples from benthometres and the semi-quantitative multi-habitat PERLA samples, which were taken in 13 dates during the year 2005 from Gránický brook, close to the Znojmo town. There were identified 9 stonefly taxa and described life cycles of 7 of them on the basis of three body dimensions (the width of the head in the eye-line, body length and the length of wing pads). The life cycles of all dominant species of stoneflies from the studied site were univoltine, which, after considering the altitude and latitude, agreed with published information. Similarly, most of the mayflies and caddisflies from study site had also univoltine cycles, although the stoneflies mainly emerged earlier. All of the dominant species of stoneflies flied out of the stream before the dry period, thus the life cycle of larvae was not affected by this stressor. This fact suggests, that some plecopteran species could be used as drought indicators. Stoneflies most likely survived the dry period using the egg and nymphal diapause, persisting in interstitial zone and in residual pools.
