Abstract:

Tato práce se zabývá vytvářením identity neslyšících v Japonsku skrze zkoumání čtyř definujících prvků jejich života. Prvním zkoumaným prvkem jsou rozličnost druhů ztráty sluchu a způsoby, jak ztráta sluchu ovlivňuje považování jedinců sebe samých za slyšící či neslyšící. Druhým prvkem je japonský znakový jazyk jakožto přirozený jazyk neslyšících a nejdůležitější prvek při definování neslyšících jakožto jazykově kulturní minority. Třetím projednávaným tématem jsou možnosti vzdělávání neslyšících dětí v Japonsku. Je poskytnut také rozbor různých označení pro "neslyšící" v japonském jazyce a konotací těchto označení.

Abstract:

The thesis deals with identity construction of deaf people in Japan through an examination of four defining aspects of their life. The first aspect dealt with is the variety in kinds of hearing loss and the ways how hearing loss affects individuals in considering themselves hearing or deaf. The second aspect is Japanese sign language as the native language of deaf people and the primary element in constructing the idea of deaf people as a linguistically-cultural minority. The third topic dealt with are education possibilities available to deaf children in Japan. A discussion of the terms available in the Japanese language for referring to "deaf people" and the connotations of the various terms is also provided.
