Echoes of the universal literature in Yo el Supremo of Augusto Roa Bastos

Abstract:

The objective of this Bachelor?s thesis is to get acquainted with the novel Yo el Supremo or I, the Supreme by Paraguayan writer Augusto Roa Bastos, and to explore the influence of the world literature on this book. In the theoretical part, I try to give a brief summary of the history of Paraguay, and mainly to describe the period of reign of the dictator José Gaspar Rodríguez de Francia, who is the main character of this book. Afterwards, I describe the main features of the period called "Latin American Boom" which is reflected in the book I, the Supreme. I further focus on Augusto Roa Bastos and his ideas being presented in this book. In the practical part, I analyze the influence of the world literature authors not only on the novel I, the Supreme but on the dictator Francia as well.

Abstract:

Cílem této bakalářské práce je seznámit se s románem Já nejvyšší od paraguayského spisovatele Augusta Roa Bastose a zkoumat vlivy autorů světové literatury na tuto knihu. V teoretické části se pokouším podat stručné shrnutí historie Paraguaye a především popsat období vlády diktátora Francii, který je hlavní postavou této knihy. Poté popisuji hlavní rysy období nazvané ?latinskoamerický boom?, které se odrážejí v knize Já nejvyšší. Dále se zaměřuji na Augusta Roa Bastose a na jeho myšlenky prezentované v této knize. V praktické části analyzuji vliv autorů světové literatury nejen na knihu Já nejvyšší, ale také na diktátora Franciu.
