Influence of light on selected species of vascular plants of xero- to mesophilous forest in SW part of the Bohemian Karst

Abstract:

Předkládaná práce je založena na výzkumu vlivu světla na 23 druhů bylin rostoucích v podrostu lesů jihozápadní části Českého krasu. Prezenčně-absenční a kvantitativní druhová data (pokryvnost, celková početnost, absolutní a relativní zastoupení plodných jedinců, biomasa a výška) byla zaznamenána na 83 plochách o velikosti 5 x 5 m, umístěných na gradientu od stinných dubohabřin po otevřené teplomilné doubravy. Dostupnost světla byla stanovena různými metodami (vizuálním odhadem, hemisférickými fotografiemi, čidlem pro záznam R:FR) v několika velikostních variantách (střed plochy, průměr plochy o velikosti 5 x 5 m, průměrná hodnota plochy 15 x 15 m). Získaná data byla statisticky analyzována. Práce měla vytýčeny tři hlavní cíle: 1) popsat vliv měřených světelných parametrů na projev vybraných druhů cévnatých rostlin; 2) porovnat zjištěné hodnoty s dosavadními poznatky; 3) vzájemně porovnat měřené parametry, tj. stanovit ten, který nejlépe popisuje druhovou odpověď. Sledované byliny se dle nároků na světlo rozdělily do čtyř základních skupin: 1) indiferentní; 2) s klesající pravděpodobností výskytu; 3) s rostoucí pravděpodobností výskytu a 4) druhy tvořící na zaznamenaném gradientu unimodální křivku. Některé studované druhy se projevují v rozporu se svou Ellenbergovou indikační hodnotou (EIH). Zaznamenala jsem zejména vyšší zastoupení rostlin s nevyhraněnou vazbou na světelné poměry. Lineárními korelacemi světelných parametrů s druhovými daty se projevilo, že na stoupající kvalitu a kvantitu světelných podmínek stanoviště reagují rostliny nejčastěji svou výškou. Ukázalo se, že při mnohorozměrné analýze dat vysvětlují nejvíce variability parametry celkový světelný požitek a odhad pokryvnosti stromového patra zaznamenané na ploše 15 x 15 m. Při výpočtu Spearmanova korelačního koeficientu, vyjadřujícího míru vlivu jednotlivých parametrů na zaznamenaná kvantitativní druhová data, vyšly signifikantně nejčastěji pozitivní korelace druhů s variantami poměru R:FR.

Abstract:

The objective of the master thesis was to determine the influence of light on 23 herbaceous species of forest underground in the southwestern part of the Bohemian Karst. I recorded presence-absence and quantitative species data (coverage, total abundance, abundance of fertile plants, proportion of fertile plants, biomass, height) at 83 permanent sites (5 x 5 m), situated on the gradient from shady oak-hornbeam forests to open thermophilous oak forests. The availability of light was measured by several methods (by visual estimation of canopy openess, by hemispherical photographs and by red:far-red (R:FR) sensor) and expressed in three size-variants (a value measured in the centre of the site, a value gained as an average of 5 x 5 m site and a value gained as an average of 15 x 15 m site). Obtained data were statistically analyzed. The study had three main aims: 1) to determine the influence of light on behaviour of selected herbaceous species; 2) to compare the obtained results with existing knowledge; 3) to compare applied methods of light measurement and to choose the best predictor of species response. Selected species were divided into four basic groups according to their light requirements: 1) indifferent species; 2) species with decreasing trend; 3) species with increasing trend; 4) species with unimodal response curves. Some species behave inconsistent with their Ellenberg's indicator values. Above all there is a higher proportion of species that are indifferent in their reaction to light in my data set. By linear correlations of light parameters with quantitative species data was shown that plants mostly react on the light conditions by changes of their height. The 15 x 15 m size-variant of total site factor and visual estimation of canopy openess turned out to be the best predictors of species variability in multivariete analyses. The Spearman's correlation coefficient, that expreses the degree of impact of each light parameter on obtained species data, was mostly significant in the case of R:FR parameter's variants.
