The diversification of the eukaryotic tree of life

Abstract:

Two types of cells exist: prokaryotic and eukaryotic ones. However, molecular data divide organisms into three clades: Bacteria, Archaea and Eukarya. While Archaea and Bacteria are prokaryotes, Archaea are more related to Eukarya at the molecular level than to bacteria. The origin of eukaryotes is still an open question, but one of the most popular hypothesis suggests a symbiosis of a host archaeon (archaebacterium) and guest ?-proteobacterium (bacteria), which evolved to mitochondria of the last eukaryotic common ancestor. On the other hand, other hypotheses rather suggest more eukaryotic-like host for the bacterial ancestors of mitochondria. According to the proposed monophyly, eukaryotes are divided into 5 major groups, Amoebozoa, Opisthokonta, Archaeplastida, SAR and Excavata. Some eukaryote lineages possess plastids which all arose by endosymbiosis. Primary plastids (chloroplasts) are bounded by two membranes, which are thought to have descended from the two membranes of a symbiotic photosynthetic cyanobacterium. Secondary endosymbiosis is the process of a symbiosis of an alga already containing primary plastids in a heterotrophic host. The plastids bounded by more than two membranes have arisen by this process. The studies of plastid origins contributed a lot to the natural classification of eukaryotes.

Abstract:

Buňky lze z hlediska složitosti organizace rozdělit na, eukaryotní (s jádrem) a prokaryotní (bez jádra). Na naší planetě však žijí různé organizmy a lze je rozdělit na tři domény, Bacteria, Archaea a Eukarya. Zatímco bakterie a archeony jsou prokaryoty, archeony jsou na molekulární úrovni více příbuzní eukaryotům. Jedna z populárních hypotéz předpokládá, že eukaryota vznikla symbiózou archeobakterie (archaeonu) a ?-proteobakterie (bakterie), z nichž vznikla mitochondrie. Avšak o povaze hostitelské buňky pro bakteriálního předka mitochondrií se vedou rozsáhlé vědecké diskuze a někteří vědci se domnívají, že se spíše mohl podobat eukaryotům. Podle předpokládané monofyletičnosti lze eukaryota vyčlenit na 5 velkých skupin a to, Amoebozoa, Opisthokonta, Archaeplastida, SAR a Excavata. Někteří eukaryoti obsahují plastidy (chloroplasty) nutné pro fotosyntézu. Všechny plastidy vznikly endosymbiózou. Primární plastidy jsou ohraničené dvěma membránami a vznikly z cyanobakterie. Sekundární plastidy jsou ohraničené více než dvěma membránami. Studie původu plastidů přispěly k objasnění klasifikace eukaryotů.
