Emigration to Texas from Northern Moravia in the 2nd Half of 19th Century. Life Stories of our Countrymen and the Attitude of the Texas Czechs to the Czech Heritage

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá tématem emigrace do Texasu ze severní Moravy v druhé polovině 19. století. V první části se věnuje obecným aspektům emigrace, jako podmínkami k vystěhovalectví, vztahem habsburské monarchie k emigraci anebo Čechy v Americe a v Texasu. Hlavní část bakalářské práce byla vytvořena s pomocí dotazníkového šetření, díky kterému byly zjištěny konkrétní osudy českých emigrantů, jako například věk, ve kterém emigrovali, důvody k vystěhovalectví anebo jak se jim v Texasu dařilo. Dotazníkové šetření se také zabývá vztahem texaských Čechů k českému dědictví.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis pursues the topic of emigration to Texas from Northern Moravia in the 2nd half of 19th century. The first part is interested in general aspects of emigration, as the requirements for emigration, the attitude of the Habsburg Monarchy to emigration, or the Czechs in America and in Texas. The body of the bachelor thesis is based on a questionnaire survey which uncovered individual life stories of Czech emigrants, like their ages at the time of emigration, reasons for emigrating or their fortunes in Texas. The survey also deals with the relations of the Texas Czechs to Czech heritage.
