Prohibition and the Rise of Organized Crime in America

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis focuses on the development of National Prohibition of Alcohol and the subsequent rise of organized crime in the United States of America. The thesis describes the position of alcohol in the American society from the 17th to 20th century, the subsequent birth of the Temperance Movement and also the events concerning the development of Prohibition and its following violation, which resulted in the rise of organized crime. The thesis primarily focuses on the organized crime in Chicago, Detroit and New York. It also informs about the way the United States of America fought against the organized crime. Finally, this bachelor thesis also describes the events leading to the repeal of the 18th Amendment to the Constitution of the United States of America.

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá vznikem národní alkoholové prohibice a následným nárůstem organizovaného zločinu ve Spojených státech amerických. Práce popisuje pozici alkoholu v americké společnosti 17. - 20. stol., následný vznik protialkoholních hnutí a dále události spojené se vznikem prohibice a její následné porušování, které vyústilo v nárůst organizovaného zločinu. Klade důraz především na nárůst organizovaného zločinu v Chicagu, Detroitu a New Yorku. Rovněž popisuje, jakým způsobem se Spojené státy americké snažily bojovat proti organizovanému zločinu. V neposlední řadě tato bakalářská práce rovněž popisuje události směřující k odvolání 18. dodatku k Ústavě Spojených států amerických.
