Conceptual Test Force Concept Inventory and Its Psychometric Analysis

Abstract:

Hlavním cílem mé diplomové práce je provedení rozboru faktorové struktury FCI. Výsledky výzkumného šetření jsou zkoumány metodologií explorativní faktorové analýzy (Exploratory Factor Analysis). Teoretická část mé práce vymezuje základní pojmy týkající se oblasti didaktického, resp. kurikulárního výzkumu, a to z pohledu věd zabývajících se poznáním jak v pedagogickém (didaktika) tak filosofickém (epistemologie) smyslu, jsou vymezeny základní pojmy konstruktivistického pojetí výuky, jehož myšlenky jsou blízké konceptuálnímu pojetí fyziky. Je popsán fenomén konceptuálním testům ve fyzikálním vzdělávání, speciálně nástroj FCI. V praktické části práce je popsán průběh výzkumného šetření, během něhož byl FCI modifikován do podoby zohledňující míru jistoty v odpovědích na základní testové otázky. Smyslem je pokus o interpretaci výsledků explorativní faktorové analýzy, zjištění případněho vlivu odladění false-positive uhodnutých správných odpovědí na faktorovou strukturu výsledků a diskuse s dosud provedenou studií tohoto tématu.

Abstract:

The main goal of my thesis is to analyze the factor structure of the FCI. The results of the research investigation are examined by the methodology of exploratory factor Analysis. The theoretical part of my work defines the basic concepts related to the field of didactic, or curricular research, from the point of view of the sciences dealing with knowledge in both the pedagogical (didactics) and philosophical (epistemology) sense, the basic concepts of the constructivist concept of teaching are defined, the ideas of which are close to the conceptual concept of physics. The phenomenon of conceptual tests in physics education is described, especially the FCI tool. The practical part of the thesis describes the course of the research investigation, during which the FCI was modified into a form that takes into account the degree of certainty in the answers to the basic test questions. The purpose is to attempt to interpret the results of the exploratory factor analysis, to determine the potential influence of false-positive debugging of guessed correct answers on the factor structure of the results, and to discuss the study of this topic that has been carried out so far.
